Star Trek is horrible

I would class myself as a Star Trek fan, but not one of these hard core guys who dress up and attend sci-fi conventions, I like Science Fiction overall, but I think the Vast majority of people assume the second you like watching Star Trek, your one of the Hard core dress up like a crew member with plastic ears nut jobs, I think J.J. Abrahams has had his work cut out for him when bringing a new Star Trek movie to the big screen, there are a lot of preconcieved notions out there in the general public about what to expect when a Star Trek movie comes out.

He has said he was not overly worried about the original fans, he wanted to appeal to a whole new fan base, and from the amount of interest this film is generating, I think he has succeded.

I hate the original series and loved the rest, but I think the reboot of the Franchise is a good thing, new faces, new ways of doing things. It had to happen, they have had 4 good series, but they were all very similar to each other and it was starting to get very stale and boring, and the last couple of Movies were very average!

So good on Paramount and J.J. Abrahms, take a franchise apart and reboot it, they were either going to revive it or kill it, and it was dying anyway, so no great loss if it didn't work.

It will be very interesting to see how it goes.  :)

I am waiting for the Star Trek: Deep Space Sleep 9 movie event.  I mean the potential of a 2+ hour movie on space exploration on a city sized ship that doesn't move in space is endless.  I think I might break out my pointy ears and nappy hair wig and go as Spock and Warf's love child.   [popcorn]

Corrected.

why do you even care?

Why do you care about what trekkies do?

They beat you up when you were a kid or something? Were you traumatized and thus the weird hate you have for them?

Not Sharpton. More like Dr. Phil.

Show us on this doll where the star trek touched you.

Usually I like scifi, but I really didn't enjoy this movie. Too much comic relief. I couldn't take it seriously for more than 5 minutes at a time.

I watched it today. I was entertained but still don't feel it was worth my $11. I'm not liking how "busy" a lot of movies are recently. Sometimes it's so much detail put into something that it's overly complicated or sometimes it's camera angles that keep changing. Sometimes it just feels so busy that I don't feel like paying attention anymore or I can't even if I want to because there's too much going on. Maybe it's just me.

It was kinda funny listening to two of the trekkies that I went to see it with picking apart things from the movie on the way home as they tried to decide whether or not they liked it.

Meh, I got jumped on for a passing comment about imdb the same way. Some people are a bit edgy recently for reasons I don't know.

ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!

I saw it - was expecting more, really.  Kinda disappointed there wasn't more ship-to-ship combat, because Nero's ship didn't really inspire much awe it was just too weird I guess.  Looked good though, no doubt about it.

Growing up I was always a SW kid, but after the utter shite that franchise has been for the past 10 years I definitely enjoy ST much more in general.

Mother

I felt the same way about Tranformers, really wanted to like it but there was too much going on in the transformations to even try and follow....that and the over-emphasis on the sabot...make the beast with two backs I get it, shoot them already
