Quick Question:  (and I'll search other threads for info here, but wonder if other foggy owners have experience here).  While riding today--only one of the fans turned on when the engine temperature rose up into the 205 degree range--just the left fan switched on and off intermittently--  looks like the right one is/was not engaged.   thoughts?

thanks--hope you are all well.  Just go an oil change and cruised today in 98 degree heat.  hot...but worth every second~

pretty sure that's normal for that bike.

That's why they pay him the big bucks.

I've never seen mine get hot enough for both fans, but I assume the second one will kick in at some point...

Welcome Zipper23 and congrats on the foggy!!!

hey! miss ya'll.. and thanks for keeping this thread alive Magnus!
MonsterMan1036 did you sell yours yet?
my foggy is currently in the care of my brother who just moved to LA. i had to leave LA to go back to NYC for business purposes. miss that bike sooo much that i can barely come on this forum without feeling kind of sad. not to mention not being able to ride the crest or the roads that cut through angeles forest like bouquet canyon rd or maricopia hwy that cuts through los padres... Cry

i've got my R1100S out here in NY which is a great bike but man, we don't have as many incredible places to ride out here like on the west coast, and we can't ride all year long either. i got really spoiled out there. i'll see her in a few months though...

anyway....i hope everyone's well and happy!

pretty sure that's normal for that bike.

Nope. Not normal. Well maybe normal, but not correct.

To Zipper23: I've seen your problem before and to better explain it I contacted the Foggy guru that discovered, isolated, and solved that problem years ago. His post (info he was giving to another guy with the same problem) will follow but the short answer is...you have the wrong ECU in the bike. Contact a Dealer and get them to correct it. And you can thank Tom.

"Not sure how much help I can be; my bike's been all sorted out for some time, and my memory is suspect...

But I'll try:

If you had the single fan issue, then yes, you probably have the 2001 DP ECU installed. I don't remember exactly what the other symptoms were, but the kickstand safety also didn't work properly with that ECU--so not sure what your mechanic bypassed .

Now, I'm not sure which of my posts you have read but, I am the one who figured out that Ducati messed up on our bikes by putting 2001 ECUs in the DP kit that shipped with our 2002 bikes. So, I got them to make new DP ECUs that were configured to the 2002 harness and gauges, etc. For a while, they would give Foggy owners an updated ECU--but only if you asked (read, complained). There might be some small chance that they will still, but they probably don't have any left.

As to selling your "spare" ECU, there is a very good chance it is "married" to your bike, and that it will not work on another S4. So, if you do sell it, you should be very upfront about it probably NOT working in the new bike...

As to confirming if you do have the DP Full Exhaust ECU, the best (perhaps only) way to tell is simply take the bike up to the rev limit a couple times. I don't remember exactly, but I think the stock ECU is about 9500, the half-exhaust ECU about 10000, and the full exhaust about 10500, and SPS cams ECU 11200 (I know this one for sure ). I could be off a couple hundreds, but I know it is in my posts somewhere. And the old DP catalog had dyno graphs detailing the various redline cutouts.

But, even still, you will still have the 2001 ECU, in a 2002 bike. We knew about the fan and kickstand issue, but Ducati would never admit to any other possible differences. That said, the bikes do seem to run ok, with the "wrong" ECU.

btw, the part numbers may, or may not, be on either ECUs, and may not mean anything. Ducati Performance used a batch of old 996 ECUs, and re-programed them, and then simply stuck new stickers over the old ones for pretty much all their performance ECUs--and the stickers sometimes didn't stick too well. The DP ECU for the 54mm exhaust on the 996R I recently sold, had an underling sticker that matched my S4 DP ECU..."

hello, hbliam,   wow, you are blowing my hair back.  I hope my ECU is not wrong!!  In reading other threads, looks like the right fan triggers in the 220 range, so I presumed it was functioning normally.  I don't think the temp rose over 210, and was watching closely. Once I cleared traffic, the temp dropped down into the 190 range.   I can say that these bikes prefer the open road--and are grumpy in the stop-n-go~

Not sure on the reference of the kickstand, but mine still has the dumb killswitch so it only starts up when it's retracted.  I hope to bypass this...but I need to learn how to do this so will take a bit of time on that.

Really appreciate your perspective---I don't really have an established "dealer / servicer" yet, as I'm still relatively new to the dallas area.  Will keep you posted on progress......happy riding!

Wondering what else you have in the garage that you'd rather ride?
