Fritzy likes carrots, Bogart takes them politely and then hides them in the other room.
(we cut them into little pieces, my sister gives her dog large pieces or whole carrots and never had a problem... Hercules is 14 now)

Glad Henrik is doing better!

That guy sucks.

Updated message from earlier today from the organization (Animal Help Now) who helped coordinate this rescue:

"Update on Lucky (aka Missy)

The Washburns (the ones who saved Lucky) tell us she is currently being treated by a vet, and Clear Creek County Animal Control is handling the situation.

There no custody battle going on right now. It is entirely up to the Clear Creek County Animal Control, Sheriffs office, and a judge if it goes to court to determine what is right for her future.

There is currently no need for a petition on Lucky's behalf.

The story is officially going viral, as one might expect, and it's not surprising how the facts get misconstrued. One thing we want to clarify is Animal Help Now's role in this: We got involved Sunday morning through our friends at Planet Pet in Denver. We made calls to animal control and spoke with some search and rescue staff. We enlisted Chris O'Riley to assist in the rescue. Chris is a long-time friend of ours, friend of animals, and hiker/climber. It was Chris' report to us from the top of Bierstadt that we first posted here.

We now are working with others to see if we can't formalize to some degree an animal search and rescue system here in Colorado."

Comment from a few days ago by the local, original "guardian" of the dog:
"'At this point I made the decision that I honestly never thought I would even be faced with. I left her there so that my friend and I could get down safely with intentions of calling S & R when we were off of the mountian," wrote someone identifying himself as aortolani14. "All I can say is that I am relieved that she is okay, I am ashamed that it was not me that started this thread, I am ashamed that it wasn't me who got her off of the mountain, I underestimated the good will and resolve of the hiking community of Colorado, and I am eternally grateful to all of you," the post continued.'"

I hope he realizes the torment that will be thrust upon him by the dog-loving public if he actually gets the dog back.  If his common sense actually does kick in, he will forfeit the battle to get her back and let the compassionate caring souls - who put effort and risk into saving her - become her forever guardians.

Two weeks ago, an experienced hiking/climbing couple with their two dogs were caught in a storm on a mountain similar to this mountain. The storm came in, caused them to get off track and their gear also went tumbling down the mountain. The storm got worse, they had no choice but to hunker down between boulders overnight. It was noted that the dogs (and people) were too exhausted to even think about an attempt to retreat w/o provisions in these conditions.  (Mountain storms are wicked here.)  The next morning, the husband left to get help while the wife stayed w/the dogs.  Search and rescue arrived, put the dogs in backpacks and helped the wife down.  All are in great shape.  Point being: they stuck together and didn't selfishly abandon each other.  A much happier story with no public outrage.  (Although it could be debated that dogs should not go on such challenging and technical hikes but that's a conversation for another day.)

Pictures in the album on this FB page of the rescue of the pup off the mountain for anyone who's interested.  Shows the conditions the dog was taken into and then abandoned.

What a great group of heros out there.

we had not intended to get a pup so soon after the passing of our shepherd Patton, but sometimes everything falls into place.  We had the room in our hearts and our home for a dog and along came LIncoln ( link for short).  He came with the name Lincoln and that was our sign, as my wife has worked on 2 Lincoln movies this past year...I guess its a good name for us.  Lincoln seems to be kind hearted and gentle.  He is smaller than patton and kinda look slike the dog in Mad max!!  The rescue we have worked with has been amazing and even waived the adoption fee, which was strange because we want to help them help animals.  We instead agreed to have flyers and a donation jar @ my restaurant.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.
