A message this morning from the grandma of a 16 y/o I recently met who just passed away last night from cancer:
"A love story between a boy and his dog. Last night, Austin was hanging on and hanging on. We finally decided he might be waiting to say goodbye to Zhang, his Tibetan Mastiff he lost when his dad died. My son reached Zhang's current owner and explained the situation. A couple hours later, Charlie and Zhang arrived. Between Charlie and Kris, they somehow got this humongous Tibetan Mastiff dog up on the bed with Austin. Daelyn (Austin's mom) took his hand and rubbed it up and down Zhang's fur. Austin turned his head, slightly opened his eyes and gave a hint of a smile. Daelyn continued to use Austin's hand to pet Zhang. A few minutes later, Austin gave a huge sigh and passed. The hospice nurse was shocked. We are so, so very grateful to a man and a dog who gave peace to Austin."
Love the dogs....

And on the topic of dogs...
On this day in 1942 the Army K-9 Corps was launched.

You know the rule: "you break it you buy it"?
The same holds true for the saying "if you pee on it you buy it".
Today's unexpected purchase? A Green interactive feeder (video below) which slows down the gobblers and keeps them from gagging, vomming, and whatever other gross things they do when they eat too fast.
My wonderful whizzer aimed precisely on the box – he did NOT hit the exposed portion of the feeder which is, fortunately, dishwasher safe. The pee didn't even soak into the box – I was able to grab paper towel pretty quickly and soak it up but you can just barely see the faint discoloration on the pricey recyclable packaging where he tried to write his name.
Retail value? Online for around $30 but in a very nice doggy boutique where we just stopped to get a cheap treat during lunch? $42.99
Fortunately the shop owner, didn't charge me full price. Just shy of $25.
You want? You can have for $25. I'll cover shipping. Well, unless I'm shipping to Panama or Perth or, well you get the idea.
Or maybe this will just have to be a white elephant gift at Christmas.

Homeboy showed up yesterday, he's a good dog, but my Shepard thinks he's a snack, so I can't keep him.

He's handsome!
Do you need anything to put his food in?

I can't go that route. He's an awesome little dog, but I can't let him get used to hanging out or he'll be a dead little dog.

Is this to slow eating? If that is the idea, we have a mutual friend that might be in need.

I get that you (and Kaiser) can't help him out. Hopefully he won't be a dead little dog by way of F150 or the like.
We could wrangle him up and ship him to Cali to Elyse's or BP's....

If you're offering to buy it, let me now. The phones are ringing off the hook! First $25 takes it.

I'm doing all I can for him, trying to find someone that's wants an awesome yet goofy little dog. I would never let Kaiser get loose.
