Really?  I would never have guessed that.  In fact, you are the only person I have ever heard that from.  Darmah is FAR from lazy, and everyone I know from the Dobermann club down here would attest that Greta (from your statement) is much more the exception than the rule.

Well, maybe I am stating it wrong.

I grew up with Labs.

Greta's energy level is so much lower than a lab's.....

Greta got tired after 12 minutes of running at the dog park today. But then again, we are getting out of the winter and she refuses to go on walks. She goes out, does business, and yanks/pulls to get back in the warmth.

She usually goes to the bathroom on concrete when there is snow because she hates walking in snow..........

I hope to God potty training a puppy in the summer is easier than Christmas time.........

Brian made me take him to the dog park twice today.  Mind you, this is only 4 months after the surgery on his left hind leg, which was a month after the surgery on his right hind leg.

He's pretty wiped out now:

Is he using medical marijuana to deal with the pain?

Look at those eyes

Just sayin' [cheeky] ;D

BTW - beautiful dog - hope he is doing great after surgery!
Desmosedici - it's the new Paso (except the bodywork doesn't fit as well)

Well....MMJ is legal in Colorado.  I wonder if the owners of an incapacitated dog would have qualified...hmmmm...  ;D

And his left "third eyelid" isn't pigmented, hence the pink/reddish color.

He's doing great after his surgeries.  Been a long recovery, but he's running, jumping, playing, just being a dog again!!  [thumbsup]  Thanks for asking!  And thanks for the comments regarding his looks.  He is pretty darn good looking!

And now that he's able-bodied and we don't have to carry him around any more, I know that (regardless of the picture that implies otherwise) he'll be able to run and get help after I fall into a window well.

You don't leave the park until they lay down. Lexi can play for a solid hour. Sometimes it takes longer. The worse has been 2 hours straight. She can tire out pretty much any dog. But during the day she's lazing about the house. I try to take her to the park every other day.

I scare people out of the park!

as soon as I show up with a Doberman, the mean looks come and people collect their dogs and leave.

It is great.

I can't wait to show up with two of them!!!

They can have a nice long look at my male who will be 100+ pounds when their shitty overbred yellow lab starts being a punk (note: I love labs. Grew up with them. But for some reason all the ones around here look like shit. They aren't a traditional block headed english style Labrador.)

People look at me mean when I take my dog too.

You can clearly tell she is "something" other than German Shepard and people assume since she looks like a wolf she is a big mean dog.  She is not.  She loves to play with other dogs.

She will however, be the dominate dog in the area.  Most dogs roll over on their backs when they are playing with her.  Not many dogs try being a punk with her.

For what its worth the doberman that I had as a teenager was one of the laziest dogs I've ever been around.  20 minutes of playing max and she would be laying down in the shade somewhere.

Dobermans are actually not a mean breed.

If you look at bite statistics, they aren't near the top. Lots of more common breeds ahead of them.

They just have that reputation. Which whatever.......I don't care. They do look intimidating, no question about that.

If I walked up to my sliding glass door and Greta met me........I'd walk away.

My dobe is lazy too.

In the summer, she'll lay on our patio all day in the sun. It is really weird.

The conserve their energy. There will always be dogs that being are scared of. Dobbies, pits, rotties, etc. I went to the park the other day and saw rotty puppy. Great looking dog and one of the cutiest puppies, but he was carrying around a doll of a baby is his mouth. You should have seen the reaction of the ladies. They didn't appreciate my comment about bringing my baby to see if the dog ate him. There's also a pit puppy that's super cool, but again, people get scared. Dumbasses.

We took our Great Dane to the beach this weekend. The Shepherd and the Leonberger went to daycare so we could spend some time working with the big guy. You see, he went the first two years of his life without learning how to play. And frankly it can be a bit dangerous to have a 125lb puppy acting like a puppy for the first time. So at the beach I was taking him just to that point where he was getting jumpy and then teaching him that he has gone far enough.

We want him to learn how to play (right now he mostly just barks when the other are wrestling or boxing). But he is so big that we also want to learn what gets him too riled up (so we don't inadvertently do that) and we also want to learn how to colm him down once he gets hyper. He jumped up on me a few times and planted his nose firmly in my left once (though with his mouth totally closed).

We kept him on a 50ft leash the whole time but he really only reached the end of it twice. I will keep all of my dogs on long leashes at the beach until they are 100% on recall. The Dane does great on coming when he is called. Too good in fact. He sprints back to me, which is fine because I can stop him with commands, but it can be very scary for other people to see a big running full speed at them. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to slow him down because I don't want to discourage him from coming when he is called. But I also can't have him running like that in public.

In any case, we had fun and Jasper was a very good boy.

Ready?

Okay, let's play.

Hey! Not too rough!

Sit.

Down.

Good job today. Love ya' buddy.

Come on boy, let's go home.
