CB..still can't get over those Rot-like paws on that pup!

they are quite large.........

The breeder also breeds Rot's, but this is 100% doberman. I have the pedigree certified by the owner of the kennel and the AKC.

The Dad actually came from the former Yugoslavia........a long line of champions.

I finished up the fence in the front yard so the puppies got to be free range in the front and we got to sit on the deck and drink wine and pet  our puppies. They were very well behaved. They stayed out of the garden and mostly just sat around. Even the hyper little black one took a nap outside with us. Anyway, here's the puppy pictures:

I remember when we left Greta out alone for the first time.

That's Fritzy-Pants The Good Time Party Dog. Not really sure what he is. The rescue we got him from said German Shepherd/Great Dane mix. We know that is wrong. We thought maybe shepherd/pitbull for a while, but that's not right either. We think its one of three options:

1) Shepherd/Lab Mix - explains the white markings and those are two very common dogs that could have bred. His size seems right for that mix. He loves to swim like a lab that's for sure.

2) Pure German Shepherd - They run all black sometimes and he does have a brown under coat (though I'm not sure about the white markings). Again he is about the right size but he doesn't seem to have the long rear sloped body that a shepherd should.

3) Pure Dutch Shepherd - He coat is the classic "undesirable" dutch shepherd coat. Too black without enough brown coming through and white markings on the paws and chest. So we've considered the possibility that he was dumped in the middle of Compton as a puppy by a breeder in LA that recognized him as undesirable for show/sale purposes. He is otherwise is great health and is very very smart and trainable, which smells of good breeding. If you want a pure bred dog that looks like this a Dutch Shepherd will be the closest you'll get. They need to work though, so if you don't give them a job they will make one for themselves and that is usually to be protective of you. Which is bad.

Since he was basically a feral dog my bet would be on Lab/Shepherd. I just know that he is very high energy and very very smart and very trainable. In the end I don't really care what breed he is. I'm just happy he is turning into a good dog. He's still got one big issue to work out from being on the streets (he loses it when he is on leash and sees another dog, but otherwise is fine with other dogs and people and kids and hes never been aggressive). But he is really becoming a great companion dog.

You can now spend a lot of money to get a DNA test of your animal to truly find out the breed. I recall reading an article about this a while ago.

Pretty stupid if you ask me, but I guess some really do want to know and can afford a few grand for a DNA Test.

My dog goes nuts when she sees another dog as well, on leash or off.

What can be done about that?
