He's a really a very good dog. Very smart and very trainable too. But he is beyond hyper. At the doggie daycare place they put him on a treadmill for 2 hours before he is calm enough to be let out in the yard with the other dogs. Then he plays all day. Then he takes a short nap when he gets home. THEN I have to throw the ball for him for a half hour. Just a stupid amount of energy in this dog.

But that isn't really the problem. The problem is that with all of that energy he becomes like a StarBucks barrista when he sees other dogs. Which is to say that he is aggressively friendly. It freaks out other dogs and other dog owners. He just never learned as a puppy out on the streets the whole butt sniffing routine as the proper way to greet other dogs. Instead he thinks that if he puts his hair up and barks in their face they will want to play. Amazingly, the other dogs and dog owners have a problem with this. He's not aggressive, but I don't expect other people to believe that with the way he acts. I just want to be able to take him to the off leash dog beach without incident.

First day of training for Fritzy-Pants-The-Goodtime-Party-Dog. It went very well. We now know a way to get him to lay down when he starts getting riled up by the sight of another dog. I'm thrilled gotta work for a few days on it around the house and in the yard, then its a walk down to the park and trying it out in a real world situation. I'm not going to describe the technique because it is important that it is done correctly and I don't want someone trying it based on my description. But after an hour it is working wonderfully on my dog. I'm stoked.

One day we will be able to take him to the dog beach. One day.

I'm pretty sure inflicting Maria Carey on any living creature violates all kinds of laws & moral codes.

But those ARE some pretty fine looking pups!  [thumbsup]

Yep!!! Mariah and a couple of others make this boy howl. His way of saying, "please dude, turn it off"
Thanks for the compliment!!

Very cute dogs julitro!

Grace is experiencing her first decent snow. She runs around with her mouth open shoveling snow.

Me and Sage

Sage is a Rhodesian Ridgeback (without the ridge), and is almost 1 year old now.  Just as sweet and loyal as can be.  She also howls when someone she doesn't know pulls up and walks to the door.  Good dog!

Thanks for all the tips guys.  Kitana is half wolf so things that work with most dogs don't work with her sometimes.  She kind of acts more like a cat than a dog occasionaly.  I've tried using treats but she'll act like she doesn't care about them and drop them on the ground and keep walking.  Like I said before she's 8 so trying to break her (very very strong willed) is not worth it. She usually only pulls for about 10 minutes and then settles in for decent walk.  Weird thing is that I can run with her and she stays right by me.  I wanted to try the new leash to see if I can trust her so I just went and bought some climbing rope and used some instructions on how to make one.  She did pretty good but I think she could get out of it too easy.

I had the same problem. Started using martingale collars and haven't had the problem since. Dogs can't back out of it. The ones i use look just like these:

^^^^ that looks interesting.  I'm going to get one and try it out.  I'll let you know how it goes.  Thanks for the tip.

Some seriously good pictures above.  I'll get some of Kitana and get them up here.

RAT900...GREAT picture!  :)

Ella loves sleeping on top of Najee...he doesn't mind being her mattress ....

they were like that for about 1/2 hour before I finally snapped the pic with the iPhone

she has been such a huge part of his rehabilitation as a happy, secure and sometimes mischievous oaf

whose affection for humans defies his sorry history with them
