Can I punch a 75 y/o german frau?

New foster clearly and without question is sick.  Whatever she had/has made its appearance sometime after noon today.  When we brought her home, she was bouncing off the walls and hurdling the sofa from several feet away.

Fever, lethargy, stopped eating, labored breathing (nothing like Heidi's breathing though).  Got the traveling doc to come to the house tonight and confirm I wasn't nuts.

Call the Frau who funds the rescue to share the info. to get permission to have her treated/examined by her/the rescue's quack clinic and she asks me what's going on in THIS house.

"It's kennel cough, I'll drop off antibiotics."

Ok, fine.  This situation is not life threatening but if it takes another turn downhill, I'm going to punch the old bag and get this dog examined properly and we're done fostering for them (for a while).

Stella is steaming.    >:(

Unbelievable >:(  Is there an agency the frau can be reported to?

Kennel cough sucks but here is some info on it

very hard to run a rescue operation for abandoned/neglected/malnourished animals

and not have a high incidence of it

This is an insult to the Pez community

Can you let the upper level Boxer rescue people know what's going on?  Would that help?
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I can check around to see what can be done via the ASPCA or other federal organization. However my understanding is that from a legal aspect (at least in CO and in MI) if they have shelter and water and aren't in imminent danger, there's little local law enforcement can do. As far as talking w/someone higher up w/in the rescue, she's it. She established it. She funds it. (By selling all her diamonds - really long story but a fascinating one.)

Because she is also the deciding factor as to what medical treatments the dogs get and based on monies she has available, quite often it's the "wait and see" approach or a shot of whatever (and likely a shot for herself too). All dogs at least get all necessary vaccinations.

Because she's running out of bling and things to pawn off, my interpretation is that the dogs are getting fewer treatments.  This prompted questioning of the volunteers on Saturday - asking whether they've ever applied for grants, what fund raising do they do, etc.  No grants and only a fund raiser or 2 a year.

I've asked to be put on whatever communication list they have so I can help them generate more ideas and eventually funding.  If the Frau will allow it.  If not, we'll foster again in the future from somewhere else.

Maggie did eat this morning, btw.   [thumbsup]

Sounds like the best idea [beer]

Give Maggie some pets from the wife and I.

and aren't in imminent danger,

If the dogs are so sick they die from lack of proper medical care, that is imminent danger.

Congrats on the efforts Stella, the animals appreciate it no matter what.

Luca had kennel cough when we adopted/fostered him. Then he shared it with Dalia, she recovered in two or so days (she had been vaccinated before) Luca took about a week but the weather was very cold and wet and we were also trying to house break him so there was constant trips outside.

Good work Stella.  [thumbsup]

Gabby had kennel cough and strangles (which I found out is actually a skin bacteria, despite the name) when we got her from the rescue. Seems to be how it goes.

I know Stella hasn't posted in this thread since last night, and I'm out of town, but she's sent some texts & pics today of a much improved Maggie.  She's on antibiotics of some sort and they seem to be working.  [thumbsup]

Whether or not is because she is a little under the weather, she has mellowed out a little bit, which we hope is a result of her having a little normality/schedule in her life.

I can tell you that I was just at dinner down on Hermosa Pier in SoCal and with all the dogs people were walking down there tonight, I really miss the two maniacs back home.  :'(

But the weather was perfect wasn't it?

Dogs and the beach...a perfect combo.
