Took Honey down to visit a few friends in Raleigh, it's safe to say she found a new best friend with their Pit. They played for about 48 hours straight, which treated me to a tired hound for a few days.

Then the next week I found a stray Mastiff/Pit mix walking down a major road near my house. Being me I didn't have a choice but to pick him up and bring him home. He seemed quite appreciative...

Honey liked him too but got jealous when we would pet him and not her. She made the most pathetic groaning sounds I've ever heard and would try and wedge herself in between him and us constantly. Spoiled brat lol...

Jbub, I'm sure this answer is somewhere on this thread but I'm lazy- what kind of dogs are abe and Gracie?

They look like great dogs and I would love a dog that I can keep off the leash.

Also, update on my dog;  She finally got over her fear of outside and is now back to normal which means she killed a coyote a couple of weeks ago and was limping afterward for a couple of days but is now fine.

They're mutts (with unknown parents) that we picked up from shelters. Grace seems to be lab or golden retriever mixed with something. We don't have a clue about Abe other than animal control (who took the litter from previous owner) said they were german shepherd and australian shepherd. We shall see.

The off leash thing is something that we've worked on from day 1 with Grace. We went out nearly every day to a big field and worked on recall and stay commands. She is actually better behaved off leash than on.

Glad to hear your dog is back to normal.

That's mainly training, although some breeds are more inclined to it than others. My Pit/Lab mix and Great Dane are both good off leash.

Dog parks help a lot IMO if you have any nearby.

I never put much effort in the actual "off leash" training. It just kinda happened naturally with the normal obedience training. At the dog park, Lexi would come when called and when I walked around the park, she would follow me. She would never stray too far. I started walking her out of the park without the leash. Considering that it's one of her favorite places in the world, it was safe to assume that she would follow me out of anywhere.

You might have issues with beagles and other hounds with the highten sense of smell. They catch a scent and off they go. I could never leave the gate opened at my dad's house.

Abraham & Grace:   Still 2 of the coolest dogs I've only cyber-met!   [thumbsup]

Artful: did you find the stray's owner(s)? Will you keep if you don't?  Looks like a nice pup!

Spark:  love it!   Looks like a cool little guy!    [thumbsup]

Yup, we had him for two days before they found our ad on Craigslist. We had considered keeping him or my ladyfriend's brother was considering adopting him. Great dog, excellent demeanor. A little protective about his food bowl, but nothing that some training couldn't cure.

He was better at night than our dog, but the girlfriend spoiled ours as a pup and let her sleep with us. Cute and snuggly when she was ten pounds, at seventy five her flops will knock the wind out of you.

Good lord!!  She's that big already?  She doesn't look it in the pics.  Hell, she still looks more like a Dobe to me, but I guess I'm biased.   :D

Yeah, she doesn't look that heavy, she's very lean. But all muscle, and I think her rock head weighs thirty pounds by itself. Or at least it feels that way in the morning when she's chilly and doesn't want me to get out of bed. She'll hook her head over my leg and look up at me like "why would you get out of bed? It's cold in here and I'm comfortable".

She definitely looks more like a Doberman than a Rott, but her face definitely has some Rott in it, and she is beginning to fill out across the chest a bit. For having a mother that was definitely 100% Rott she sure looks like a Doberman.
