As I was warming up the bike this morning for my near frigid ride down the FDR to school, I was surprised to find that my bike wouldn't rev up because the throttle just seemed to spin in place.  I took a quick look at the throttle cable on both ends and everything seemed to be fine externally, so I said a hearty thank you that it didn't happen on the FDR last night and wheeled the bike back into its resting place to head to school by mass trans.   Sad

When I got home and opened up the throttle casing I was expecting to see the cable end snapped off at the throttle, or maybe the pulley assembly askew, broken or slipped off its mounting.  All was well, so I put it back together and gave it a startup and VROOM!! Puzzled even more than before I thought maybe I had dreamed the whole thing until I pulled the casing off again to look at why it would catch until I put a little more pressure on the throttle and manually induced the dreaded free spin.

Oh, I suppose I should mention that these are Rizoma grips so there is a frame of reference.

Apparently there are two parts to the aluminum billet grips: The outer billet grip, and an inner plastic sleeve that is (was) glued inside the hollow grip.  I'm sure this is a pretty common system used but it seems a bit cheap for such an expensive set of hardware.  I pulled the plastic sleeve from the aluminum grip, shook my head and placed a call to PJ to let him know and ask his advice.  Of course they are closed until Monday for one last trip to Deal's Gap for the season, of which I am very envious, so I figured I'd post up here.  Knowing PJ, I will get a call way late tonight once they are off the bikes and he'll offer to warranty it on his way back from Deal's Gap even though I bought them more than a year ago.  Gotta love those folks there!!

Thanks for letting me vent a bit.  Now for the query.  In bonding plastic to aluminum in an application that requires a solid and permanent fix, what is the best substance to use that won't damage the plastic but still bond both materials sufficiently?  Epoxy?  Something else?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Go buy some of the "as seen on TV" miracle putty.
They sell it at my local Walgreens Pharmacy. That
stuff is great, bonds like cement to just about anything.
I snapped off my rear directional on my 696 and that
stuff made the connection stronger than it was before the
break. I sanded then painted. The crap works!

There's just something about the words "as seen on TV" and "Miracle" being used in any context that gives me pause to use for something that gets twisted constantly under varying amounts of pressure...  I'll look into it though, so thank you.  waytogo

I've used JB for various things in the past and had thought about it for this but the only specific reference to a plasticized substance it bonds with harmlessly is PVC.  The plastic sleeve in the grip is kind of a soft plastic.  Is JB corrosive to non-PVC plastics?

Q: Is there anything that J-B Weld WON'T bond to?

A: J-B Weld will not adhere to, or bond well to:

    * Any flexible rubber surface
    * Leather
    * Vinyl
    * Canvass
    * Polypropylene plastic
    * Polyethylene plastic
now.. what do you have? lol

JB Weld works basically on metal only.
As seen on TV product bonds anything
pretty much. I didn't believe it till I tried it.
I had a neighbor who needed some shelving
brackets hung and I remembered the commercial.
So I went and bought it and glued the brackets
to the wall. I figured they would fall off the next day.
Nope, still hanging about 2 months later with about
20lbs of stuff on the shelf.
