Is he still injured? He seems to be hobbling along a bit.

That vid is from the end of season testing in Oct., so, yes, he was still hobbling then methinks.

other than the d16rr, which you may see on the road but not often (unless you're in SoCal, apparently), it's got twice the number of cylinders of any ducati. it sounds night and day different because it is...
and all those bikes are earth-shaking loud.

there is a guy local here who has a D16RR and he brought it to VIR when we had our club event in October, and it was awesome to hear...though it wasn't anywhere near as loud as the GP8 at Indy IMHO...the GP8 struck me as not as obnoxious as the Yamaha as far as low end bellowing sound and the Zuke and the Nicky's RC212V seems to be on the top end of shrill to be quite frank....

the GP8 sounded far more...
severe
to me than the other bikes at indy. i attributed that to the rest of them all having some version of a normal firing order and the GP8 doing that whole "double twin" thing.
and while we're at it, wasn't it interesting how different the two factory yamahas sounded from eachother?

...except ducati abandoned the "double-twin thing" before the 2003 season 'cause they couldn't keep the motors in one piece.

it still is an L-4 with a more conventional firing order correct? The Duke and the Kwacker sounded the loudest at Indy IMO. The Yam sounded like it had a factory exhaust...very refined.

as conventional as a V-4/L-4 configuration would normally be I would guess...it would be hard as hell to configure a sequence with an unconventional firing order I think leaving some dead spots and extreme peakyness...but I am not an engineer....I just play one on TV and stay at Holiday Inn Expresses

To paraphrase Kevin Cameron in his book TDC, "at full throttle what you here isn't the power, what you hear is the drain".
"The drain consist of the valves opening and the gas leaving. The speed of the valves opening controls the frequency spectrum of the exhaust wave. A fast opening makes a more raw sound (think 2 stroke as the extreme, the piston is at max velocity when it opens the exhaust port). The slower the valve opening (think cruiser or other 2 cylinders), the lower the frequency."
Therefore, the deci should have a different sound than other 4 cylinders due to the desmo
The pneumatics should also sound different.
