My new Blacksheep Bikes Custom Ti Handlebars just came in today!

It seems it must be Handlebar Week on The DMF.
I had posted a few weeks back on another thread that I was having these made.
They are a one-off, knock off of the Rizoma bars pictured on PJ's Parts.
I had them made just slightly shorter to clean up some of the gaps left by the
Rizoma grips I installed. They took way longer than I was originally told, but I
think it turned out to be harder than they thought, just a hunch. I think they
might have ruined a blank or two as well, also a guess. However now that
they are here, I am initially quite pleased as they are pretty spiffy. Ti is cool.
Hopefully once I mount them I will still have the same good feelings. I will try
and get them on my 696 tonite. I will take some pix during the process and
maybe do a how to thread. They are not as lite as I thought, but they are
really thick at the clamp (see 2nd pix) and will soak up some major road
vibration
. Assuming they don't hit the tank and fit in the cut-outs,
I think the $200 will be money well spent.

Well I just finished installing my new bars.
It was much more labor intensive then I
expected. I made two or three minor mistakes,
nothing you can really see. All involved the
drilling of holes. On the clutch side, which I
did first, in lieu of drilling I nipped off the
positioning nub on the control which was a
bad idea. I had to wrap duck tape around the
bar so it would snug up and not move. However
this caused the choke, and the multi-function
switch to be sticky. I will look for a trashed control
and swap it out, but it is ok for now. The throttle
side, when I drilled my holes I was off slightly on
one and had to drill an extra. Note Ti is very hard
to drill, especially a round bar
If I had to do it again it would take me 2 hours less
time. BTW- they are so much better than the stock.
The riding position is much more upright which works
for me. I only rode around the block so I can not comment
on vibration quite yet. Once I get a few miles on them
I will elaborate.

Thanks. Not even close to hitting,
The throttle cable is very tight, but
seems ok.

I put about 80 miles on the bars today, almost all highway
heading down to Miami beach. I have to say I really like
the position, less reach and less wrist pain. I didn't notice
any real difference from the wind being more upright either.
As far as vibration dampening goes ,I want to say they are
better than the stock ones, but without riding both, back to back
I am just speculating so don't yell at me if you buy a set and
don't feel a difference.
I stopped my Dud dealer on the way home to pick up an oil
filter, and they were digging my bars, and were surprised they
were only $200. They asked for the guys contact info because
they may have a project or two for him. I have had a few
enquires about the bar weight, I did not weigh them. I called
BSB and he guesstimated them at 360-380 grams. He can go
lighter I think, but I told him I did not care what they weighed,
and was more concerned with them being safe as I am kind
of a test rat with these. Not something you want to have break
at speed, or ever for that matter.

Thanks. Not even close to hitting,
The throttle cable is very tight, but
seems ok.
Two things.
First, maybe it's me but in the "after" pic the bars look a little uneven. It's prolly just me though or the angle the pic was taken.
Second, I would check the routing of the throttle cable if it's appears tight. The new Ti bars don't look like they have much more rise than the stock bars so if the throttle cable is tight then there's a problem. I have installed bars with a much higher rise than that and had no problems.
Check to make sure that the throttle doesn't open at full lock in both directions. Start the bike and then turn the bars all the way to the lock in both directions and see if you notice an increase in RPM's. If so, you need to reroute the cable.
Other than that, VERY COOL!

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying the bends are cockeyed, or my mounting.
I just eyeballed them trying to get them centered, so you may be right. Being bent
wrong is another issue.
Which way do you see it off? Is there a good way to center when there is no center
mark on the bars or the clamp? As to the cable issue, my RPM's are not effected.
I should have had them look at it when I was there yesterday, but I spaced. Knowing
that the RPM's do not move, but the cable it very taught, is it ok or should I get it
looked at. Not an item I want to go haywire.

I was referring to the bends on the bar not your mounting. It looks centered as far as I can see. If you want to check the bends just remove the barends and measure from the end of the bar to something on the bike like the top of the lower triple. If the measurement is different on both sides it means the bend is off. But thats assuming the bars a centered. I could explain how to find the center of the bar but it would take too long to type. Shoot me a pm and I'll give you my number and I'll explain it over the phone.
As far as the throttle cable, so long as there is not increase in rpm's at full lock in both direction you should be ok. If I were you I would just make sure there's nothing binding and see if theres any additional slack to be found in the cable.

Uggggh. I think you may be onto something. The right side is closer to the tank
by about 3/8", but I may not be centered. However they are not off by that much
so it must be the bend. I am going to my MTB shop and I will have them center
them for me and I will remeasure. Nothing like custom made parts.
