I've become an old man on an old man's bike

WWW
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:25:22 AM »

I have started the asking on another thread so I thought I'd make it official for him here.
So what will Spider replace his beloved 992ds with.

1. M1100s possible retail $22k (I'm guessing) have seen it for $14k U.S.
2. S4R or S, big HP but light on fuel range.
3. 848 with bucket loads of C/F
4.1198? bet you haven't thought about that yet!

What's your guess/input for his thought process or just add something to confuse the crap outta him.  Grin

Ah yes, but it won't be here until mid next year at least, can one wait that long for a new set of wheels.

Not a vote actually, but having seen Goldie on the M1100 at Frasers I can't imagine 12 foot nine of spider being real comfy. Plus $22k for an air cooled Monster! that is a serious amount of money for a chick's bike ... not saying its not a good thing, but bloody hell.

As to the question: what will spider buy? Somewhere better to park his bike!

Ah yes, but it won't be here until mid next year at least, can one wait that long for a new set of wheels.

.... and the 1198 is due when?

I'm guessing the 1198 is due earlier than the Street Fighter cause it will sell better than the S/F.

I'm only guessing from what has been said at Frasers about price of the M1100. The S2R 1000 was $20k new wasn't it?
So it ain't that much more, the whispers were $18k-odd for the standard and about $20k-odd for the S model with trick forks/rear and C/F bits.
Don't know if you'd really call it a chicks bike though cause we kinda all ride'em. Monsters that is.

And yeah I guess 6 foot plus doesn't fit real well on the new bike.

S4Rs if you can find one spidey that would be my pick, or an 848 white with the dry clutch conversion so you can have that annoying noise in your ear !! (just kidding about the noise)

I recall Spider calling the 4v motor ugly on occassions so prob not a S4r/s.

i reckon he's a monster guy so prob not a sports bike.

Having ridden the M1000 he won't want to go any smaller in engine size.

My best guess is a  preloved S2R1000 so he can start the bling again.

Now spider, prove me wrong.

From ducati.com.au .... RRP (ie. + on roads) for S2R 1000 - $17k; S4R - $20k; S4RS - $24k; S4RS Tri - $25k

... and the 696 - $13k with the 696+ - $13.6k ... so it is a sizeable step up in cash.

Don't know if you'd really call it a chicks bike though cause we kinda all ride'em. Monsters that is.

I was a bit tongue in cheek about the 'chick's bike' comment. The new Monsters definitely feel smaller, they are lighter, shorter reach and are somewhat uncomfortable for certain parts of the anatomy that girls don't have to worry about ... I think they are actually an ideal bike for a girl, doesn't mean they are not a bike for blokes too though.

They bought the 696 in at a time when the world wasn't thinking of financial melt down.
Let's hope they (NFI) understand that if the M1100 is introduced at too high a price then the
Usual volume selling bike won't sell.
So hope for prices of maybe 18k and 20k then according too S2R and S4R prices.

And I knew your comment was tongue in cheek, I have a friend who always asks if I've
Got rid my chicks bike yet. But I think that is because he can't or doesn't want to afford a Ducati.

whoa, just saw this thread....

before the votes....

9 months of experience, 8,000 odd KM's under my belt....so don't be irresponsible and start talking 1198!!!! (you sound like some of our US counterparts who wonder why they write off their bikes)

how about?Huh?

998 or 996 or 748r?

or

m1000 (in RED!)

or

S2R1000

F%CK!!!! they are all brilliant.

I can fit on a 748 really well, but the new 848 has a vertical bulge 3/4 down the tank....so it will be interesting to see if the legs can get on.

I also want a fairing of some size so I can be protected - I like my rides to be 500km+ for the day - so I don't think the new 1100s will work.

Hey Spider are you after my (blokes!) bike?  Shocked

As to voting Spidey won't buy the 1100 now it's been called a "chicks" bike. Grin  So it'll have to be a streetfighter I guess.

Does it have to be a new bike?  How about a pre-loved Monster.  That's where I'd be putting my money if I were a betting person.
