I can think of no eloquent, premeditated means to say what I have to say, so here goes.

My Dad died last night. He was 62 years old.

He had had some heart issues in the past, two near heart attacks and angioplastys to fix them plus a couple of stents. He was doing great. Last night (November 30) shortly after dark he and my Mom were headed home from visiting my brother and doing some shopping. They were on the home stretch to get home, only five miles to go. They were having a conversation, then my Dad stopped talking suddenly, and began veering for the ditch. My Mom tried in vain to steer the car away from the ditch but failed. The car crossed the oncoming lane, became airborne over the deep ditch and struck a large tree on the driver side, flipping 180 degrees and coming to rest on the passenger side. My Dad was gone when the EMTs arrived, but my Mom escaped with only a broken wrist and is missing a fingertip. Even their dog survived somehow. I had the unenviable task of cleaning out the remains of the car, and I cannot fathom how anyone walked away especially after viewing the scene.

Hug your kids. And your family, even the assholes. Because you might never know when they will be gone.

I am so sad upon writing this that I can hardly read the screen for the tears. It's going to be a long week for me, as my folks lived three hours away and it's time to put the pieces back together the best they will be. Bear with me if I don't post.

Thanks peeps.

Thank you for sharing such a difficult occurance in your life with us. It is amazing that at such a time you have anything to give and can turn to people you care about and know care about you, even if we know you only because of the shared thoughts on this forum about our common love of motercycles. That is a testament to the kind of person you must be. I wish that I knew you personally.
I am holding off the tears as I write this, knowing the pain your are in right now.
Please convey to your mother and all of your family that we on DMF, your extended family, are thinking about them and that we wish them the best in enduring in this difficult time.

Sincerely, K. Powers
