sss conversion

I have an 08 695 and was thinking about a sss conversion.  Anyone know if a sss from an 06 s2r 800 will work?

Potential issue here:

Your stock gauge cluster is set-up to run 6 pulses per tire rotation.  The S*R bikes run 4 pulses per rotation so your speedo will read 33% low.  There's a device called a Speedo-Healer that **may** be able to do the trick but it's something to look into before ripping your bike apart.

Also, BTW...you never get your $$$ back out of heavy-mods like that.  Might be better to sell off the 695 and buy an S2R800 instead.

+1 bigger one. Your bike would look like an S2R800...why not just buy an S2R800?

You guys read my mind.  The cost of the SSS isn't that bad, nor is the wrenching...but then once all the other stuff is added into the equation (new wheels, exhaust, etc...), it starts to get spendy.  I guess that's what I'll do, put another season on my 695 then trade up to either an S2R or an S4R...or a Streetfighter!

i was wondering if say you had a totaled 848 or the like, could you just pull off the SSS from it with the tire and breaks and bolt them on to a 696?

doubt it.
nothing is ever "bolt on"
even things sold as bolt-on...

the 848 cases are different than the 696. you'd have to shave off where the bearings mount in the 696.

the shop i work with has done it both ways. added bearings to a case to add a dss to a motor from a sss bike as well as the other way.

But...

The 696 has a 'supersport' style rear shock setup, no linkage, so that part won't bolt up.
Most likely the 696 rear header wouldn't clear the 848 unit.

All these kinds of conversions can be executed successfully, but they're a lot of work.

actually, i typed that as a joke, but half the time you cant get a bolt off a ducati without stripping it. so its a valid point..unfortuntely.
