Yanks sure have been good at buying titles in recent years.  At least, they've spent the money.

How'd that work out for them this decade so far?

Yeah the Yanks are the greatest ever! Just look to their world championship last year.....Oh wait.....that was the year before......Oh wait.....No lemme think...

Oh yeah, thats right! 8 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!

The greatest ever my ass. Even IF they win this year which they won't, they'll still be criticized for buying a championship. How can you say they are the greatest ever when they have had the highest payroll in professional sports for the last 8 years and haven't won shit?

Buying a championship by spending $240,000,000 on a team is like Casey Stoner racing in the moto GP against 12 year olds riding Ninja 250's

The fact is the Yankees should be embarrassed by the fact that they spend so much money on a team that can't seem to win. And talk about embarrassing, look at the way they ran Torre out of town. He was a class act. Thay acted like he was the reason why they weren't winning. Yeah ok Hank, put down the crack pipe. He seemed to do ok in L.A. no?

YANKEES SUCK!!!!

yea ok friend, the yanks suck?
hands down best team in baseball
every players dream to wear those stripes
yea they spend tons of money because ITS A BUSINESS and they are the most PROFITABLE franchise
lets face it if your teams owner was serious about WINNING he would shell out the big bucks for the best players
its like racing you spend money on the best engine, best parts and best driver and you WIN
dont worry they are going through a transition.... they'll win this year mark my words.

If they are so great then why haven't they won in 8 years?

Then why do they have to shell out so much money to get all those players to play there?

If it was such a dream then the playere would gladly take a discount to play there right?

Face it, they don't have the right chemistry there. All those inflated egos have a hard time playing together. The way you win now is by developing a good farm system and bringing up the home grown talent like the Red Sox have been doing for the past 6 years or so.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Yankees had great teams back in the late 90's with all their home grown players. Spending a gazillion dollars to buy a team never works. The Red Sox tried to do that for years under Dan Duquette. They spent tons of money and traded away all their young talent for veterans to try and win and look where it got them. Until the current regime started focusing on player development they went nowhere. And while it's nice to make the payoffs every year, I would trade a World Series title every ten years for playoffs every year.

I'd be shocked if the Yankees win the series this year. Yeah, C.C. and AJ are great pick ups but they have to stay healthy. AJ has a habit of winding up on the DL and C.C. isn't exactly in the best shape. They would have been better off going after Ben Sheets and K-Rod. Mo Rivera is about 200 years old now so whats going to happen if he winds up on the DL? The Yankees are make the beast with two backsed, thats what.

Yankees are the greatest sports franchise ever. I look at it this way; the owners put THEIR money back in THEIR team. I dont care what you say 26 Championships is bad a$$. Its easy to tell who here is a true baseball fan because most of the members of the team are home grown..not bought Yea they bought CC and AJ, but who cares its their money.

They're getting better...because they haven't won by buying a team...but they were definitely not home grown in very recent times.

a whole slew of starting pitchers, most of whom failed

...and I know I'm forgetting a few.

I actually have no problem with the Yankees spending their money. I think there does need to be a salary cap in MLB though, because some teams have an unfair dollar advantage. NYC is easily the biggest market in the country (even with 2 teams), and the Yanks deal with the YES network makes them a TON of money. Compare that with the Oakland A's (2nd most winningest baseball franchise) and you see the disparity.

oh...and I still think CC will choke. Expect an ERA north of 4 next season for him.

This is exactly my point. They haven't won since they stopped developing talent and started buying it.

Who are these guys? Yeah they might be home grown but if they don't have an impact who cares?

As far as the others the only one who even matter so far is Jeter. The rest haven't won shit. Look a Joba, what a choke artist.

If you are going to tout a bunch of players because they came up in the system at least mention some who matter.

When it comes to home grown talent the Red Sox have the lock on that right now.

Youkilis
Pedroia
Papelbon
Lester
Buchholz
Delcarmen
Masterson
Lowrie
Ellsbury

All these players came up through the Boston system and have contributed to a World Series title.

Gimme a break. I know your a Yankee fan lwszabo, but at least TRY to be objective about it.  [laugh] The FACT is the Yanks have been trying to buy a team since the late '90s. Recently they're getting away from that a bit...but they still have a higher free agent payroll than anyone in baseball.

Don't get too crazy now. Boston does their share of free agent signing. But agreed, they're leaps and bounds better than the Yanks in that regard.

Actually, the A's have the lock on home grown talent...problem is they ship them all off. Look at everyone's roster around MLB.  [laugh]    :'(

The Architect

This is just a little bump in the road for the Yanks.  Give them a little time, they'll be back on track.

As for you Boston fans, let it go.  All this hate isn't good for you.

Agreed but because they haven't won and they don't keep them seems to make it a moot point.

I'd like to see the number of current players that came up through the TB Rays system and contributed the their success this year. What they did this year was incredible.
