The space shuttle just landed in Ft Worth, and only a few miles from my home. I took these pics off of my back deck. I will post better pics once I download all 500 that I took  ;D

A few more. Sorry for the image quality. It was a long way away, and there was a bit of haze.

Very cool.  I was outside in Nashville one afternoon when a Shuttle was landing in Florida and it  passed over head.  It was freaking loud and fast.  I didn't know what it was until I watched the news later that night and saw its landing path.

strange... since the shuttle glides back to Earth deadstick, the noise you heard was just the air it was displacing.  I guess an object that big slicing through the air at such a high speed would be freaking loud.

sonic boom?

Hehe, nah the sonic boom is only heard once as the shuttle re-enters the atmosphere and reaches Mach 1.  When I was living in Daytona Beach, I would occasionally hear it when the shuttle came back to Earth.

it actually produces two sonic booms, but they're so close to each other (half-second apart) they can sound like one.
