2012 Ducati 1199 Tri 1975 Yamaha YZ125

« on: December 11, 2008, 08:28:33 PM »

While I was in Waipahu I stopped by South Seas and saw the 999S they have there.  Other than it being a bit too expensive (since you can get a 1098 for about the same price and a 1098S for a couple grand more).  What do you guys think about it (I remember you guys talking about it a while back...)

I'm still "talking" to the guys about it.  Little bit of history on that bike, it has been through two previous owners in its short life and they do not have the red key to go with it, only one black key.  So with that in mind, you are basically SOL if/when the immobilizer takes a shit on itself.  They have had that bike down there since last April and haven't really had much interest on it at all, which doesn't surprise me considering how most of their business is with the Harley crowd. I offered them $9500 for it a week or so ago, but told them I wouldn't go much higher due to the fact that I had to save money for the nemesis ecu in the near(ish) future.

Two basic things about a 999.

1) You should have money to spend on it. Lots of money is good.

2) You have to not mind spending said money on it.

I think my opinions reflect any 4 valve liquid cooled Ducati. New or old. The Streetfighter looks way cool I must admit. I don't expect it to be free from any of the standard Ducati vices though.
