I've read much on the lid removal creating a loud intake honk, but I can't imaging what it sounds like. I'm trying to decide whether or not to do the mod. My Arrow exhausts are already pretty obnoxious, so I can't imagine hating the new sound. I tend to like induction noise but don't know what it sounds like on a big desmo twin.

Any examples and/or thoughts?

its easier to just pull the lid of and find out for yourself. Its not that easy to record.

NO IDEA why I didn't think of that...I'm not very mechanically inclined...

In fact...how do you access the lid to pull it off? Just undo the tank latch and lift?

Yes... make sure you don't have a full tank of gas though because there are a couple different ways you could end up with gas on the bike.  Sometimes if the top does not seal all the way it can come out the top.  Another way is it to just come out the overflow tube.

FYI LUKEY,
The airbox mod is VERY LOUD.  All of the noise from the resonance in the airbox comes up right at your head.  That being said, i love my open airbox.  With earplugs of course.

Once you have the tank up, pop the four spring clips that hold the air box cover on, remove the cover, remove the spring clips and the roll pins that hold them in place on the air box, then get a couple of long tie wraps round the box to hold the filter in place and your good to go

Better yet............. pick up a cheap spare stock lid & cut off the top & leave the sides so you can keep the metal clips & have a cleaner setup.  Cutting a stock lid gives you the same result as a DP one........ you'll just save  hunderd or so dollars waytogo

Now that is some helpful advice! Thanks!

before you chop the box do what capo did first. 1 piece of duct tap across the middle should hold pretty well for a while.

Once you hear it, youll decide if you like it or not. Personally i love it, but its annoying as hell after the first few minutes. gives me headaches, but thats why i wear earplugs! then its the sweetest sound next to you know what.

I love the sound, but with the full exhaust the combination made the bike run much leaner than was healthy.

It only takes like 5 minutes or less to take it off.  I used zip ties to keep my filter in while I did a few test rides (I had my lid off for about a week while I decided what to do with it).  It's an interesting sound, and "honk" is actually pretty accurate.  Give it a shot and see if it tickles your ear drums.   waytogo

Why do you need zipties for it? Shouldn't the vacuum of the intake hold the filter in place? At least in the short term, take the bike around the block to see if you like it...
