I had the pleasure of going to the range last night with one of my SWAT buddies. After about 2hrs. I came to the conclusion, I suck.  These guys can write words on the targets... no kidding.  I did get to try a few handguns. most notable were the SigArms P229 357sig (by far the most powerful pistol i've ever seen), the Taurus 24/7 9mm HIGHLY modified & his Glock .45 He calls that one his angel. Seems to be the gun all those guys carry. He refers to them as a no bullshit, no frills, when your life is on the line gun. Coming from these guys, it must be the Gospel.

Interesting! 

I went out to Briton's on Christmas Day and we took a walk out to the field to put some rounds through my new pistol.  I may have mentioned before that I am not a big firearm buff.  It is work for me to go through this , but I know it is a worthwhile endeavor and I may need it someday.   It was cold and windy so we didn't spend a lot of time out there.   I put some lead into a chunk of wood to get a feel for the trigger pull and noise factor.  We'll get to paper targets next session which will probably add an element of challenge and interest to it.

I'll be spending some quality time at the range within the next few days.  Jackie needs to spend a bit more time with her little Taurus, and I want to put a whole lotta .45 rounds through my newest XD.  Within a month or so I'll have to break in my new concealed carry pistol, but it's still waiting for me at the shop.

Just throwing it out there...I spent over a decade with the USAF as a weapons instructor and 3 years as a DoE trained SWAT sniper.  If anyone would like some coaching, i would be more than happy to offer my servivces.  No fees...just for funsies.
