I love to go bowling, but I haven't been in a while.  Rum bowls, Scorpion bowls, Volcano bowls, I like them all.

Wow, I guess I should have named the thread something different.  I really just wanted to discuss those who like football interest in the college football bowl season.  Sorry for the confusion, I will change the title.

I'll watch the Cal & Nevada games since I'm an alumni of both. Cal can be painful to watch, expecially if Longshore is playing. Nevada's QB is really fun to watch...so long as he doesn't throw the ball too much!  [laugh]

The Boise/TCU game should be really good. I hope Boise stomps them so that dumbass on ESPN will STFU about how Boise would have lost 4 games if they were in the Mountain West.  The WAC is admittedly weak, but Boise is a good team and I believe is 4-0 against Mountain West teams over the last few years. BYU getting beat by an unranked Aizona team last week shows the Mountain West isn't all that tough either.

Finally...Ohio State getting the nod over Boise for a BCS game, even though Boise was ranked higher in every poll, is ridiculous and shows that college football is more about money than talent. Oh well...OSU will choke...thay always do! bwahaha  ;D

Doesn't have to be a choke for UT to win big. I think most feel that Texas is the better team, and OSU's very young on offense. Frankly I think they deserve to be there more than Boise, though. I know BSU won the Fiesta over OU using an assload of gadget plays and thanks to OU's worst qb in a decade; I just don't think they have the talent to play with the big boys on a regular basis. That's why they much prefer "bowl games" on the smurf turf (read: a mid-winter home game for Boise).

I agree...I'm sure they wouldn't be as dominant in a good conference, but they would still be very competitive. Over the last few years they have taken it to a few Mountain West and Pac-10 teams.

I'm not sure how you figure OSU deservies it more though. BSU is ranked higher than OSU in the BCS poll (right or wrong due to schedule). That fact alone should send BSU...otherwise, what is the point of the BCS rankings? Should the #5 team in the nation play for the national championship instead of the #2 team because they "deserve" it more? The highest ranked teams should go to the BCS bowls. OSU is going because of their fan base.

I don't think BSU prefers the Humanitarian Bowl...it's just the conference they're stuck in. BSU outplayed OU in the Fiesta Bowl....using players OU wouldn't even scout, so who cares if OSU's QB supposedly wasn't too good. He was good enough to get them there. It doesn't matter what happened 2 years ago anyway...it's a different year.

OSU is going to lose too so that kind of evens out your theory and places us back where we began...

Dude...they lost by 1 point to the best defense in the country. They now have 1 loss against Mountain West teams.  [roll]

If they would have gotten blown out I'd agree with you, but that was just a good game all around.  [thumbsup] You did see the ESPN poll during the game where almost every state in the country (except Oklahoma  [laugh]) thought they deserved to be in a BCS game, right? My opinion wasn't too far out on a limb here.  ;)

Well...the Tide got rolled alright.

Another reason why none of these non-BCS teams should be counted out. The Utes showed the speed, confidence, and maturity normally reserved for...well teams like 'bama.

But *I* am looking forward totonight's Rick-Rolling of the Bukeyes by the Longhorns. Only time you will ever hear me rooting for a big 12 team this vocally.

Got my usual nerves since the 'Horns can be so damn inconsistent, but:

I guess we will see tonight.  The Big 12 south hasn't been doing so good.  It is easy to see what happens to those great Big 12 offenses and quarterbacks when they face better defenses.  I'm really nervous too but I feel much better than I did last year when we kind of got screwed by the system.  I didn't think we desereved to be in the championship game.

I will say that the BCS probably got it wrong this year.  As much as I hate to say it, USC deserved to play for the title.  They are at least the second if not the best team behind Florida.

The Big 12 may not be doing that well this year (3-2)...but the Big 10 is doing horrible (1-5).  Maybe the Pac-10 (5-0) isn't as weak as everyone was saying all year!  ;)

I was actually surprised that USC handled Penn St. so easily. I thought they would win...but not quite as easy. Hard to say if they should be playing for the championship though, as Florida ,Texas, and Oklahoma are all great...

Personally I think they should do something about the Rose Bowl and USC. I know the Rose Bowl is always the Pac-10 and Big-10 champs...but it is essentially a home game for USC when they make it. Playing in such a familiar environment has to be a decent advantage, which seems unfair to me.

+1^^^^

Going to the Rose Bowl is an advantage for USC but the ties to bowl games is probably the biggest reason we don't have a playoff and of course cash.  I still think it wouldn't matter if USC played Penn State in Happy Valley the would still spank them.  Caroll is a tremendous coach.  If he could just stop the flub ups in the PAC-10 he probably would have one 2 more National Championships by now.  Wow, really surprised by the Pac-10.  Watch out for Oregon next year.  I think they have a shot at the title.  Also, not saying the Big Ten is horrible because they played crappy.  Northwestern blew it against Missouri.  Hopefully the Buckeyes can bring a little respect back tonight.  I just want this work day to be over so I get this damn game over with.

I really hope that within the next 5 years we have a playoff system in Division I football. They could still have the bowl games...the major ones (i.e., current BCS) would just be a part of rounds within the playoffs. They could rotate them so they all get a shot at hosting the championship game, and the higher playoff rounds. Basically, if you win your conference, you get into the playoff bowls...plus a couple at large bids. This would also eliminate USC's inherent Rose Bowl advantage.

Keep non-playoff bowls (non-BCS currently) for all the teams which don't make the playoffs.

This would force the Utahs and Boise States to quit pregnant doging...since they'd be in automatically for winning their conference.  It'd also prove if they can hang with the big programs for more than a single game. For instance, they may squeek by a Big 10 team in the 1st round...only to get waxed by a Pac-10 team in the second (or maybe not). Question answered...but I think it would make bowl season much more exciting.  [coffee]
