Some year...

with the best accountants money can buy...

I want to pay a million dollars in taxes.    ;)

My best friends parents pay something like that.  Most down to earth people in the world.  His father was a normal working man with about 1000 acres of inherited property in south Texas.  Shell oil has been drilling for natural gas on that piece of property for about 15 years without much luck until about 5 years ago when they brought in a new geologist and he told them they were drilling on the wrong side of the property. He was right. They have something like 5 wells going now but its coming out of the ground faster than it can be processed.  And still the nicest people you would ever meet.

:) cool.   whereas I've allways been a bit of a pompous ass even before I made any money.  Nice to see money doesn't change everyone   ;D

When I built my house, I was my own GC, every  tradesman asked if I would be paying in cash or check. Looking at discounts from 10-20% on some projects...  you know which way I went.

Lots of crybabies in this thread.  [roll] If you're mad that you have to pay taxes and he doesn't then quit your job and work under the table.

The guy was just asking for help on getting proof of income for a purchase,  not a critique on his employment choices.

sorry matt

I meant

Get a real job... ;D

Here is my prospective

all of you pregnant doging and moaning at having to pay taxes should take hard look at history and wonder why we are letting the make the beast with two backsers take taxes to begin with...

As to matt's situation

There is no moral issue with working under the table

he is trading time and skill for money...this is the way it is supposed to be

unfortunately when doing so

and not paying taxes

you have to forfiet a few comforts of participating in modern society

such as:

nope, as long as you dont
a) get laid off and need to file for unempoyment
b) get injured on the job and find that no ones insurance will cover you
c) get caught and audited by the IRS (or this happens to your employer)

oh, or you need a loan for a motorcycle

So with your current deal, you will have to pay cash for the bike, it is just how off-the-grid works

Mother

and

I have to agree that you are getting the shit end of the stick

a union apprentice in your field is going to get paid a shit ton more money than you are getting

Do you remember when i was a union Millwright?

actually you wouldn't because i didn't know you then

I was getting paid 48% of Journeyman wage during my apprenticeship and clearing more a year than I will top out at in my current field

I had a new jeep, a new yz400f, 2 appartments and I was partying every fri/sat/sun and couldn't spend all the money I had

and Pipefitters make a hell of a lot better money than Millwrights do

I understand your situation right now

and you know what I thought about the choice

so we won't go into it

but

i really think this situation should last just long enough to either

get into school for your original field

or

Go into a proper trade school

Hell if you went into pipefitters they would teach you to TIG

and

you could go into fab from there

but in your current deal, I think you are being used, and i see you getting make the beast with two backsed in the end

I'm sorry to drag this out in public but you did kinda start it

Crybabies?  The man's stealing from us.  Should we just sit back and ignore it?  How about I come over to your house and take 40% of your belongings?  How would you feel about that?

As to his original question, many have answered and made recommendations, if he moves forward with a loan it will only get him in trouble.

I agree but it seems that we're in the minority these days.

It's not the taxes these guys are trying to avoid, it's workman's comp.  Some of these guys have to pay up to 35%/$/hour.  And if they have any claims it's even higher.

His father-in-law is making out like a bandit, if he doesn't get caught.  What's the going rate for plumbers workman's comp?

[evil] Yeah, I love paying taxes (always payed taxes :P) has anyone noticed how responsably the man spends what we give him?  [bang]

I'm looking at buying an 1198.  I currently 'ride' a heavily modded 96 Corvette LT4 and a slightly modded 03 50th Corvette.  Both paid off.   [beer]

Because we like things like paved roads, indoor plumbing, clean and disease free water coming out of our tap at the turn of a lever, natural gas to run our heaters, electricity delivered right to our house, airports and the ability to fly all over the world, shipping ports and the ability to send and receive goods from around the world, security from other govts., schools for us and our children, police to protect us and our belongings, etc, etc...

...and firemen to protect us and our belongings.  ;)

That doesn't mean I believe all of our money is well spent...but taxes are definitely necessary.

...and the OP should pay them...since I'm sure he benefits from all the things listed above. Under the table side jobs are one thing...living from it is another.

sometimes though

I really wish it would all come crashing to an end so we can prove ourselves as men again

sorry ladies

this is my man fantasy

it is a sexist fantasy i know

life supported off the land

only fearing wild animals and tribes of men

instead of unseen death from governments with ICBM's and fingers motivated by stories in a book and illusions of martyrdom

I would give up paved roads, internal combustion engines, and antibiotics for a a few years of feeling what it would be like with the hand removed from the government leash

but the only way to accomplish that now is to be homeless

our government won't let you go live off the land any longer

and don't give me the alaska lecture

it's too make the beast with two backsing cold
