ok.  the spacing issue was on single sided s*r monsters.    keep an eye on it anyway.

I will.  I talked to a guy that mounted the same wheels on his PS.  He said he initially had some rubbing on the rear brake, but that was with the axle fixing nuts torqued to 150nm!!   Shocked Shocked  He backed them down to 75 and all is well in the world.

Working on that too.  Trying to get some 4p4p calipers, but it can be tough getting a decent deal when you live in the middle of the ocean...

Well, we attempted to instal the wheels yesterday and ran into a problem.  The front wheel did not mate up to the forks.  No matter what we did, we simply could not get things to line up right and the axle spacing was all jacked up.   bang head bang head bang head  So we decided to make our way to the rear wheel so I would know if I had to send one or two wheels back.  Well, the rear wheel went on ridiculously easy, so easy in fact that both Mac and I thought we had forgotten to put parts back on.  We were both looking around for something that should have gone back on, but there was nothing.  So here I am with a stock spoked jobbie on the front and a 5-spoke BST on the rear.  Hope I can get this sorted soon, because I am headed out to Asscrackastan in three weeks...   Undecided

More (including pics) to follow when I get off the lap top and back on the big computer.

Is just the front axle and spacer that's the problem?

No, if anything it looks like the hub was assembled backwards from the factory.  The spacer from the stock wheels was on the left side of the hub as it came off the bike.  The new wheel (BST) had the spacer permanently attached to the right side.  With that in mind, the wheel would sit too far to the left (with the rotor resting on the caliper mount) when the axle was inserted all the way in.  The only way we were able to get the wheel any where near close to centered was when we mocked it up with spacers on both sides of the hub but then the axle would not go in far enough for threads to come out of the right side fork leg.

Well, it took me all of a five month "holiday" away from home, but finally got both wheels, as well as a superbike front end swap, on the bike.  Here are a few pics...

HUGE difference!!   Grin  This thing turns in so quickly now it isn't even funny.  Don't really know what to attribute the new handling characteristics to the most; the wheels?  The new tire profile?  The 30mm offset of the triple tree?  The fact that the front end now sits about 15mm lower than it used to?

Kind of funny though, as I used to think my Daytona was a bit nervous handling when I first got it, but it has nothing on this.

Yeah, with wheels that light, a steering damper of SOME sort is definitely a necessity.

I'm curious, tho, how do you like the new 4-pads?

As is triple tree is 15 mm lower on the forks, or the forks are 15 mm lower in the trees?  From the adjustment marks in the pic, I'm assuming the former.  If so, that would be my guess.  If it were me, I'd be getting a steering damper.  My '99 was, as you say, a bit nervous when I got it and lowering the forks 5 mm calmed it right down.
