What IS real is that Oakland Red Cross is having some sort of Plasma for a Plasma contest going on right now.  If you donate blood during the month of January, you have the right to enter for a chance to win a 42" Plasma TV.  Ya gotta weigh at least 110 lbs. and probably should be AIDS-free.  I might actually go and do this.

I applaud the people that can give blood.  applause

I can't do it.  Just the fact that their draining my life blood bothers me.  Shocked

Don't get me wrong, If it is directly asked of me to save someone in particular, I'll do it.  Still won't like it, but I'll do it.

You got plenty to spare...and they give you a cookie when you're done--a COOKIE!  I'll do a lot of stuff for a cookie.  Srsly.  I really like cookies.  The key is not to watch.  I can't watch them do it.  I can poke and cut on myself all day long, but I don't like it when someone else does it.

Desmo, I think Celine Dion is behind it.   I think she's behind most things that are bad in this world.  Celine.... grrrrr....

She's usually my go-to scapegoat, but the email scam just smells like Robert Mugabe.

Don't you have tats though?...that's the reason why I can't donate.

See, so now you can say that you'd love to give, but you're just not a candidate!  Tada, you are now guilt free.   waytogo

You can't donate if you have tattoos?  Are you sure?

The tattooed just has to wait 12 months to give blood, and I think my last one was almost 2 years ago.  I guess it's time to get another!  Evil

It was in a local paper, made of actual paper.   Grin   I tried the Red Cross website, but it doesn't mention anything about it.  The location specifically mentioned was on Claremont Ave.

Weight
You must weigh at least 110 Lbs to be eligible for blood donation for your own safety. Blood volume is in proportion to body weight. Donors who weight less than 110Lbs may not tolerate the removal of the required volume of blood as well as those who weigh more than 110Lbs. There is no upper weight limit as long as your weight is not higher than the weight limit of the donor bed/lounge you are using. You can discuss any upper weight limitations of beds and lounges with your local health historian.
