just curious what do you guys think the stock cans off of a 696 are worth? i've got about 400 miles on them. i just need to know what to ask for them.

Why do you want to sell all your OEM parts? Anytime I made mods, I always saved all my parts just in case. I sold a bike with mods and the buyer was pleased I had all the OEM parts.

Good idea in case you get a fix-it ticket too. [thumbsup]

Wow, wouldn't that just bite?! I can't imagine taking off all those little screws again just to get to the ECU.  :'(

my bike will never go back to stock. and if someone wants a stock bike when i sell mine, do buy this one.

when i sold my last bike, the people who looked at it never even asked about the stock parts...

and what do you mean by fix it ticket? nothing on my bike is illegal

swampduc

Your aftermarket cans are almost certainly not street legal (if baffles are out)
Respeta mi autoridad!

Raux

the only street legal aftermarket termis are the TI cans. with or without baffles the others are for race-use only.  [laugh]

mrplease

i know it says they are for racing, but wouldn't it be illegal for a dealer to sell you race exhausts, install them on you bike, let you drive away, and also tell you that they are legal.

plus i'm 100% positive i will never get a fix it ticket for my cans. if i do i'll give my termis to someone!!

I'll hold you to that.... where do you live again  [evil] I've got dibs.

Also, just because a dealer does it doesn't mean it's legal. look at the guys in NY and what they may end up having to deal with. If that bill goes through every single one with the SS or CF Termis will get a ticket regardless if they have the baffles in.

If someone lost their first set of stock cans, it was probably because they didn't like them. Sound like anyone you know?

I'm trying to think of reasons people would spend money on a second set of stock cans...

0. They wouldn'tâ€"someone will give them their undesirables if they ask nicely.

1. They got a fix-it ticket and for some reason can't make their aftermarket cans quieter. Oops. Scratch that. This scenario could never happen.

2. They want something fugly to tinker with. ??? Again, see reason 0.

Raux

as a replacement for damaged cans and the insurance not paying.

I seem to remember seeing in a thread somewhere about a Cali dealer refusing to install aftermarket cans because of the state going after dealers (i.e. fining Jesse James $250k for installing exhausts that did not comply w/CARB) :-X

i would keep the stock cans,

here is why, pu tthem in a box they dont' take up much space in the garage or your basement or under your bed, also when you go tto sell the bike the person will want them, even if you say "well they have termi" on them no matter they still want both bc if they get pulled over they want to be able to fix the stock cans for teh court date.

trust me having all the stock parts will help you later when you go to sell the bike and you will sell it at some point, nobody usually ever keeps bikes "forever" most people will upgrade or such after a few years, not want to ride anymore, or needs money for other things and the bike is the first thing to go.  its just the way it is.

Well, I did say "reasons people would spend money on a second set of stock cans."

Rider X damages his stock cans. Will he:

A. Not spend any money, but acquire a second pair of stock cans anyway?
B. Spend money on his second pair of stock cans?
C. Use aftermarket cans instead?

Is B really the most attractive option for Rider X?

Who will be in the market for a used, tricked out 696? Most likely some kid for his first bike. He will see that it already has aftermarket cans and say "oh, boy! this saves me the trouble." He won't even think of asking for the stock cans. If anyone thinks this is cruel, so is asking money for them.
