I have an S model myself but all types are here.

This is quite an active owners forum and has a lot of info.

I've had a 2006 monoposto since April. It was a leftover floor model and I got a smooooookin' deal on it.

I put a little over 7000 miles on it over the summer.

What specifically do you want to know?

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I've also got an '06 Mono.  Fabulous bike and has TONS of character.  The link to Ducati.ms is a good source of info.  The riding position can be a bit brutal at first, but you'll warm up to it just like almost anything else.

I've got an '06, it was the second Back in Black that Advanced Motorsport created. The first one that was featured in the Jan. 2007 Motorcyclist magazine went to Ducati North America. Mine has the Ohlins treatment front and rear, Termi slip ons, the AMS/Back in Black paint job (that Ducati knocked off to make their 100 numbered "specials"), Storz Performance steering damper, CarbonFiberMan front fender, fork protectors and rear hugger, Evoluzione tail/license plate kit (no longer offered) and other stuff. The '06 models are special, not so much super valuable or collectable, because they (and the Paul Smarts) had the solo shock and sculpted s/arm for that year only.

Sounds like an interesting trade. The "skunk" bikes are my favorite of the colors that were offered. Can you get a decent test ride on it before you committ. They are such different rides... completely different. Curious, how many miles on the two bikes? Do you know the owner of the bike and it's service history? They don't have any real issues that I have heard of. Basic DS1000 engine, jeez they are bullet proof. Not a lot of aftermarket stuff due to limited sales. Lots of folks picked theirs up from dealers as left overs for a good deal. Also, dealers often installed the taller "comfort" bars and Termi slip ons and offered them as a package deal to help move them. Worked for a lot of folks.

I have the taller bars and the DP comfort seat. Big difference, very nice comfort improvement, well worth the $$$. [thumbsup] I'll keep an eye peeled on the thread to see what happens. Good luck!! [wine]

Why?  Does the 749 just not do it for you anymore? The Sport is fun and all, less maintenance too but.........
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

Having never ridden a 749, I can't really offer any FHE as to the differences, but I can make some basic comparisons.

The position will probably be similar, so that's not so much a worry.

The two biggest differences you're likely to notice are the engine (duh [cheeky]) and the brakes. The '06 SC has the same 1000DS as the S2R1000 with the 8,500 RPM redline, as opposed to the 10,500 RPM available on a 749. On the highway, I'm usually putting along comfortably at about 4,500 RPM in 4th and doing a comfortable 70-75. Roll on the throttle and it'll break 100 before I have to shift, and it sounds absolutely evil anywhere above 6,000.  [evil]  I have yet to find a legal use for 5th or 6th gears. I'm guessing they're actually just spares in case I wear out 1st or 2nd.

The brakes, while definitely adequate with correct pads that have been properly bedded, are much less enthusiastic than those of the 749. Again, just something to keep in mind. They're not the same as the S2R800 2-pistons; they're actually larger. If you decide to switch out wheels you can upgrade the brakes to whatever you like.

I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything. Dynoed at just over 80 hp bone-stock. With the Termi's and an ECU you're probably looking at 90-ish hp. And of course the Termi's sound "like god having an orgasm."

If you're okay taking a moderate decrease in at-the-limit performance, and in return getting an absolute head-turner that'll cost you less to maintain, I think you'll be perfectly happy.

Oh, and a big +1 on the comfort seat. HUGE improvement.

Seriously, the most common question I get is "What year is that?"

I can't stop for gas without someone staring at it.

I'll come out of a restaurant or something and find people giving it the walk-around.

Puts a smile on my face. Every. Time.

yea its different that is why I really like it.
its got character and a timeless look....
what to do what to do lol

I agree with everything said so far. They have timeless looks and character out the wazoo. Don't get the "what year?" question that much but I get a lot of "what is it?". [clap] And they mean it in a nice way. Brakes could be a lot better and he's right about changing the wheels allows the use of different (better) calipers... but why would you change the wheels?? They are part of "the look". I have heard where some upgraded calipers can be used but there is a trip to the milling machine first to gain some caliper-wheel/spoke clearance. Too much trouble for me. If I want to haul ass that fast I'll ride my Hayabusa, 999 or RC51.

Sounds like the mileage is great. Less than 2K means it's just nicely broken in. Again, do you know the owner and can you get a nice test ride on it? There is nothing like the sound of the two valve air cooled Ducatis with Termis or Arrows. As we all know they kick ass! I have a full Termi system on the 999 and there is no comparison, not even close. My RC51 with Sato pipes is a very close second but we are talking Ducatis here. [thumbsup]

If you are looking for something completely different and want a change from the 4 valve water pumper and if the bike is really clean then I would do it. Why not?

Which system does yours have?  I've got the two-one Termi's and mine sounds a bit more like God is pissed at the air around you.

but why would you change the wheels?? They are part of "the look".

While the spoked wheels do really look the business, they are heavy as all hell.  I am in the process of putting BSTs on mine and damn they make a huge difference.  A little over eight pounds on the front wheel set-up alone.

I have never ridden a 749, but I did spend a little time on a friends 999.  One thing I will say is that the 999 was a good bit more comfy that the Sport.  Plus, the fairing really shielded you from the wind.  Anything over 95-100 gets really interesting with all the buffeting that you will get on the Sport.  Having said that though, I absolutely LOVE my Sport1000.

fastwin

Yeah, I read your thread about the BSTs and the problem with fitting the front. Hope that all works out OK. Does it get any better than BSTs??? [bow_down] Don't think so. To each their own... I like the spoke look no matter the weight but I bet it would look awesome with BSTs!!!!
