Mine has the air heater in the intake instead of the glowplugs, and while I think it is a better system, since there are no glowplugs to break down, it does pull a lot of juice from the batteries, especially in below freezing weather.

No, it's gasoline, so I don't have to worry about fuel gelling or trying to start the high compression engine like a diesel. However, cold just sucks the life outa batteries...

that's an interesting idea but i can't imagine how many watts that must pull when the air is flowing fast. 

glow plugs heat the head and pistons so it stays around longer.  i havent had any problem with mine.

My little S-10 started no problem this morning when it was negative something out after not having started it in two weeks.
Can't complain about my little Chevy.
