So I heard on the radio today that the house of representatives for the great state of Cowleefourkneeah(slight ribbin of gov. Ahhnold) has suggested giving i.o.u.s to the tax payers in lieu of a state income tax refund this year. They are blaming the current economy for their situation. I politely disagree. Perhaps the blame should be placed on state officials who are spending more than they are taking in. I.O.U.? WTF?!? How about you guys living in CA. suggest having these morons impeached? Or... when they try and take taxes out of your check you guys instead write them an i.o.u. Seems fair, dontcha' think?

No they don't. They educate you and your children, feed you, give you free medical care and public safety personel and open all public parks and beaches to you.  ;)

I'll be moving to Cali this year for school.  I was thinking about buying a place and becoming a resident.  Looks like I'll be renting and keeping my current driver's license.

What part?
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

You have 10 days to get a new license or be subject to cite if/when pulled over. Residency is considered renting, going to school, or working.  :)

Just remember that he pronounces it the same way the Spaniards who named it did. ;)

There used to be an exception for students...is that not true anymore?  (Of course the exception wouldn't count if you were using residency to save money on tuition at a state school.)

There is but I like you figured he would be trying to get resident tuition. If not he can drive here on his out of state DL. If he is under 23 he can even keep his out of state plates. If over he has to register the vehicle here. And he can't work here either unless the job pertains to school. Weird.

just another good reason not to live in california...

i have a rant so long about this, from personal experience, that it would require starting another thread
which would then be locked for
a) violating the no politics rule
b) violating the no cop bashing rule

disclaimer: nothing personal hbliam.

Not going to a State school, but I did plan on living in LA after I graduated.  Till then, I think I'll keep my current residency until things shake out.

Forget state taxes, they are paying me with I.O.U.s starting next month.  :-\
and I have to take 2 unpaid days per month (140 hour work month~ 12.5% pay cut)
California is make the beast with two backsed no matter how you cut it.  They will have to slash programs and raise taxes to even get close to balancing the budget.  This will drive out more businesses, lowering their tax revenue.  Repeat.
