So, this may be old news, very old news.  But, Ducati had a contest to redesign the monster.  And, we all know what design won.  However, I hadn't followed the contest nor the design submissions.  Did you?

Anyway, I came across an example of one of the non-winning finalists (by Heikki Naulapää).  I wanted to get your opinion which YOU thought was better.

The Ducati Demon Concept by Heikki Naulapää

OR

The Ducati Monster 696 (that the people at Ducati choose as the best design)

My vite is for Heikki Naulapää's Ducati Demon Concept...

**AND, if anyone has pics of the other finalists I would love to see the other designs as well...

I think the Ducati Demon should have been what is now being coined the "Streetfighter"!!!

Yeah, the Demon is way cool....  but is it a practical PRODUCTION motorcycle?!?  Likely no.

the "demon" was designed back before the s*r bikes ever came out.
in fact, if i recall correctly, it was not done for Ducati, but was later submitted to them.

that said, i would have liked it more than the new monster design.

edit: i actually like the demon better without the faring.

Its easy to point at a computer model and say, "They should have built that!"

But Ducati is a business, and the market for $80,000 motorcycles is not great. They need to build something that is attainable by the general public, and they need to make a profit.

i'm not much for fairings on motorcycles, but i really like the design of the demon, the glass that shows off the front forks, and the side lights, i like this bike a lot. The tank is has too many hard edges, but i do like this better then the street fighter.
Are there any more designs that didn't make it, i would love to see them.

i personally like the demon concept better.  but i think it wasn't chosen because it looks like just that, a concept bike that belongs on a showroom.  it probably wouldn't appeal to a huge market either.  but yes, the demon with a 1098 power plant would be panty-dropping goodness.

Raux

i can see the demon concept in the streetfighter. maybe they did adapt the design.
