There's a full service station a block away that is about a nickle per gallon cheaper than the self serve places. It's weird. They're really prompt, so I go there often. They offer to let me pump gas in the bike. I like that place.

I live and grew up in jersey, never had an attendant try and pump gas in the bike for me, they automatically know maybe from learning their lesson quick. Ive never waited too long to be served either. If I'm really in a rush ill pump it myself and no one says anything.

The problem is when I cross over into NY or PA I'll sit and wait like an idiot for someone to serve me then realize and have to remember how to work one of these make the beast with two backsing things.

I took a motorcycle trip through Oregon last year.  Never once had someone try to pump my gas, they just handed the nozzle to me.

Of course we got funny looks for being out in a downpour....

No one here in Utah will pump gas for you.

In high school, I used to use it as a screening for dates.  If she didn't know how to put gas in her car, then she got the boot.

Just as a clarification, just because you live in a state where you're not supposed to pump your own gas does not mean you do not know how. Dunno why that comes up.  :-\

because there are many adults who do not in fact know how to pump their own gas. and they tend to be from states where they have attendants pumping for them.

Like my mom who had to learn when she was almost 60 and moved out of NJ.  Those were funny conversations.  "Some pumps you have the little lever under the handle, some you don't - why don't they make them all the same?" hahaha

I'm not sure why you would get funny looks for being out in a downpour in Oregon. I mean-that's all it does there anyway.

Maybe the funny look was because they hadn't seen the new Buell you were on before?
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

How do you guys have so much water yet manage to keep your hippies so filthy? Is there some sort of massive umbrella industry?

Case in point: My mom never knew how to pump gas because my dad always took care of it.
