Thanks all. Feeling welcome already. The age thing doesn't really mean much to me. I do ride with the idea that I shouldn't go faster than my reflexes will allow me. I've haven't seriously thought about track days, though that could change. I mean, I have seriously considered going over to Double Eagle and taking flying lessons. (History- my Dad learned how to fly when he was 74.)

Here in NY, when I am actually leaving the home office to work in the metro area, I ride my '01 whenever possible. In Albuquerque, the Monster is my primary means of getting around.  

I have not ridden much with other people. I commute, run errands and take occasional day trips. Barbara, the Princess of Passion and Pain, will ride with me when we're in NM. Traffic in NY intimidates her. I consider myself a motorcyclist, not a biker. I have no tatoos and all my jackets have sleeves; I wear a full-face helmet. Never get on the bike without jeans, leather jacket and gloves.

Any musicians in this group? I play bass, a decent blues harp and passable bottleneck guitar.

Musician?  Um......no.  Blues fan?  Hells yeah!!  Bring on the B.B. (Riley) King, Muddy (McKinley Morganfield) Waters, and Robert Johnson.  Passable bottleneck guitar, indeed!

As to your gear stipulations, you'll fit right in with us.  No half helmets (or no helmets here in NM if you like), sleeveless jackets, or shorts and flip-flops in this group.  As to your SO riding cupcake, we have that sometimes, too.  We're very tolerant of riders of all speeds....and ocassionally even let a UJM ride along.  

The track day, if you're at all interested, should be a rather sedate affair.  It is hosted by the local BMW dealer, so it will be largely populated by more staid Beemer riders.  More to pass so we can feel fast.

Welcome to the NMMR.  Where are you at in NY?  I moved here from the Newburgh area a little over 2 years ago.  I got hooked with this bunch through Bonfy and even though I don't have a Duc, they still tolerate me.  Don't worry about the age.  I'm 58 so as far as I'm concerned, we're the same.  We have representatives from every age group and although the actual years may be there, no one here is actually "old".   [moto]

I know, poor guy.  It doesn't take much to unleash the crazy in us.  I'm supposed to be working and now it is almost time to go home.  You guys carry on!  I have more ridiculosities to share, but I must tend to some duties.

So, in seeking some kindred Ducati spirits in NM, I have provided an excuse for the dogs to run amok. This could be interesting...

I live in Huntington Station, Long Island- grew up near here (but California-born, so I have that going for me). For those unfamiliar with the NY burbs, Huntington village is a neat little town with lots of great restaurants, a fabulous book store and many live music venues. The Cinema Arts Center is here. Huntington Bay leads out to Long Island Sound, the body of water between Long Island and Connecticut. Long Island is generally flat, but the North Shore is a little hilly (highest point is 435' above sea level). The South Shore is on the Atlantic. If you go east about 70 miles, you reach the fabulous Hamptons (not for me). We are about 45 miles east of Manhattan.

For the most part, Long Island does not provide opportunities for open-rode riding. It's traffic and lights and impatient drivers. Or, the Long Island Expressway with traffic and impatient drivers. For some reason, the upper-middle class favors SUVs.

I look forward to riding around NM more. we've been going to ABQ for over 10 years (the Preincess' son and family live there) and have owned the house for over 5. I've seen some of the state, but are ready to explore more.

Alright- off to a Saturday workday.

Met some people this morning at Coffee at Dawn- Cloner, Kingbaby, Larry (Hunkypunk?) and a few others (John, Jim, Ed, Matt). Very pleasant. I will motivate myself to do some riding with y'all, but it was nice to be able to put faces to some of the members here.

Hooked up with Ed and John for a round, then with Kris for another.  All in all, a beautiful day for a ride.  Then I got to come home and watch some awesome WSB, which I shan't spoil here.
