Any first hand experience with Factory Pro in San Rafael?

I'm interested in getting my S4RS properly tuned and not so interested in buying a DP ECU. If you've had your bike tuned at this shop, could you please discuss your experience there? How satisfied are you with the tuning job? Thanks!

It was many years ago (and the bike had CARBS!) but they did a decent job. The results were less than expected/stated.
If you are not planning on replacing the exhaust system & the ECU (either DP or having yours reflashed by 'mash) and ridding yourself of the O2 sensor you are in for a bit of a fight with it. It will not be ideal trying to fight the O2 sensor's input/affect on the mixture while attempting to tune it.
Can I assume you are gonna go the PCIII route for them to tune with? FYI, the newer (read: after they[power commander] got fined by the EPA) units only allow for above 5K adjustments. Unless you get their "race" version which they might not want to install for EPA regs.
I dunno, mebbe they have their own product to wire in instead of a PCIII but I don't see it on their site or our bike in their list of products.
If they try to bypass the O2 sensor or just disconnect it, you will have a constant "check engine" light on on the dash.
If you are only looking for a general resolution to the surging etc, some have had good luck with the Fat Duc unit.
I personally LOVE my 50mm Termi system/DP ECU
and
PCIII with a dyno tune!!
If you need the part number of the PCIII it was for an M1000sie...

Got the full Arrows and the Fat Duc now. I want to run an open air box and to be honest, I'm not convinced that the Fat Duc is the right answer. I don't really know enough to get that thing properly dialed in, and it only works in the closed-loop mode anyway. In my heart, I know the right way to do this is to just suck it up and get a DP ECU, but man, that's a lot of $$$!

If the DP ECU doesn't do anything other than have a different A/F map, "I" would just go with a PC3, and a custom map.
FYI: Some SBK DP ECUs raised max RPM.

With the above arrangement (FULL Arrows) you should have a constant "check engine" light on (unless the Arrows provide a bung for the O2) and the DP ECU will turn that off (as it is not looking for an O2 sensor), raise the rev limiter (500 rpm) and seriously re-map the fuel & ignition for you. You WILL be happy with that.
BUT, the PCIII added to it will give you the ability to remap infinitely and in finer detail down to 250rpm chunks and in a "dual" cylinder mapping, it will def get you more HP on top of the DP ECU. Ask me how I know...

I'm running with the O2 sensor plugged in. With the Fat Duc, it runs OK. I'm sure I could tweak it to run better...just need to set aside the time because the ECU gradually adjusts to the Fat Duc. I was looking for another solution--one that doesn't break the bank, but one that will give me a good running bike with my current setup. I know monstermash has his deal going, but I'm kind of hesitant to send my ECU halfway across the country. Running a DP ECU AND a PCIII is out too--again, money! The teka box that factory pro uses sounds interesting, and they insist it'll work with the stepper motor, but based on research here, I would think that it's not compatible. Hell, I don't know....I just want to have my cake and eat it too.

I hear ya. At this point I think you're only option to actually get the bike "tuned" with the minimum amount of $ is to disconnect the O2 & live with the light on (disconnect the light or tape over it). Get a PCIII and dyno tune it.
Only bad part about the light being on is you won't know when there is a real "code" event going on...
One other idea I had is, my buddy has a Speed Triple that he got a PCIII for and they had an O2 sensor bypass device that plugged in to trick the computer that it was there and everything was ok. Mebbe one of those would work on yours...

To answer your original question, I've gone to Factory Pro (tuned my 250 Ninja race bike), as have Tigre (749R) and datv (GSXR750). They're good. Desmoto uses Factory Pro their for all their Duc tuning. IIRC, I think Tigre had a less-than-perfect map from them once out of the many times he's been there, but they got it right the second try. I figure that's par for the course with tuning race bikes.
I've always found them to be really helpful, and cool folks. They're good with getting good useable power, not just a peak dyno so that you can show your graph to your friends. Be aware that their numbers are not Dynojet numbers. The Factory Pro dyno readings are *well* below Dynojet numbers. I don't remember off-hand the percentage difference between how to the two read, but it's substantial. If you are looking for a chart that has the highest number on it possible for bragging rights, go to a Dynojet facility, not Factory Pro.

I could care less about bragging rights. I just want a bike that runs well.
