This video was a single that Deep Purple put out in 1969. It was the 1st song recorded after Ian Gillan and Roger Glover replaced Rod Evans and Nicky Simper who had been in the band when " Hush " and " River Deep, Mountain High " were released as singles.

This lineup would be " Deep Purple " on and off through 1993. Dolph

Children?? Children??. Despite being the record that chucked them into the American pop rock charts, you have to admit machine head was a good record. Just because all us young folks grew up with today's shitty rock bands doesn't mean we don't know where the good stuff came from

. I'm not saying I don't like todays metal (I can't get enough), but one has to only listen to a couple of Rainbow records to realize just how awesome Ritchie Blackmore and the bands of yore were. It's a different sound, but it's still the same bad ass rock. (FTR, I'm 26)

As a keyboard player, I put Jon Lord up there near the top of rock players. My favorite rock organ solo is the one on Deep Purple's version of "Kentucky Woman".

Although Purple is way past their prime and have different members in the band they have given me the " Best " for 5 decades.

I believe they sold the most records of any band in 1972.

Ritchie Blackmore is still going strong . Recently marrying his long time lead Singer and much younger Candace Night and performing as Blackmore's Night since the late '90s.

Ritchie still has some great melodic riffs and Candace has a great voice. Secret Voyage is their latest CD. They even do a Purple song on the CD. Dolph

Purple headlined Monsters of Rock (Europe; three dates) in '87. They (and Dio) were the reason I went. Bon Blowme was supposed to be on the bill as well and I wasn't going to go. Luckily, they cancelled or were pulled and I did. One of my top three favorite concerts even with having to wait through about 8 hours of shit bands and set changes. Amazing performance.

SP3, sorry to hear that you had to listen to 8 bad bands but glad you stuck it out and still had the enthusiasm to enjoy Purple Dolph

If my memory serves me, the lineup was (in order) Pretty Maids, Helloween, Cinderella, Ratt, Metallica, Dio, Deep Purple. I had never heard of the first two, knew of Cinderella but never liked them, Ratt was ok, Metallica was very good (Puppets was new then - last album I ever bought by them), Dio was great, Purple was amazing.

Yes, he has. Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, solo, Black Sabbath, solo, and Black Sabbath aka Heaven and Hell. He was solo at the time I saw him at Monsters of Rock. I saw Black Sabbath (again) on the Dehumanizer tour (92) when he came back the first time. Here is one of my all time Rainbow favs:
