Me too. I'm just thrilled I caught the little shit.

There's no way he was gonna see the camera (8 year old X10 wireless camera). Hell, the cop didn't even see it after I pointed it out to him...

It's malicious destruction of property.  I don't know if you have kids, but I don't like having to explain to my 3 y/o what happened to her snowman...

Come on.... You know that's where all criminals start. Next it will be shoplifting, Car Jacking, Armed Robbery  [evil]

I think its good to put a little scare into the Punk so he thinks twice about it next time.

And he has snow all over the place. He can make his own Snowman or Snowwoman and open a can of whoop ass on it if that makes him feel better about himself ;D

This is in no way an indictment of anyone's actions, but merely an observation of differences between eras that I find interesting.

When I was a kid, if something like that happened, my Mom would either have taken it up with the kids parents and made the little shit apologize, or (more likely) taught me the ephemeral nature of snowmen and how they're the target for bad people because of their nature. Police would only have been involved if something was stolen, broken or someone was injured. Everything else was handled within the neighborhood.

It seems that these days, for whatever reason, neighbors with disputes are less likely to resolve them on their own.

Well, I'm of a pretty recent vintage, and that's how I would have handled it.  Where I live, if I called the police to report "malicious destruction" of my snowman, they would hang up on me.

I have an 11y/o and a 3y/o. Unfortunately in these times, me having a talking with the absent mom about her kid doing shit to other people's things while he's at home alone until 6 or 7pm isn't going to do much. I called the cops, not to have him charged or sent to juvy, but to scare the shit out of him so maybe he will think twice before doing stupid shit on and to other people's property (OPP)...

I support calling the cops on that little punk fully.

its all about consideration for others and their shit and kids these days need to learn it early.

Last I checked the snow isn't anyone's property. Kinda like you leaving a dog bowl out, having it fill with rain, and then complaining someone came and dumped your "property" on the ground. The most you had was a trespass violation but those are only valid after an order from the property owner to stay off the property.

Do you try talking to him first? Alot of these "latch key" kids are just looking for some direction or mentoring. I was a latch key kid. It's not an easy way to grow up.
