Outside opinion of the Monsters?

Just wondering if other people get the same reaction.  It seems like my nearly stock S4R gets more attention than my friend's 1098 and my other buddy's tricked out RC51.  I'm not bragging at all, just a little surprised.  When we stop to eat at a cafe or post up somewhere I get more passers by walking straight past the decked out sports and looking up my plain bike.  Is this a regular thing or are people around my way just less acquainted with the monster?

Heads swivel when I roll past it seems.  I get a lot of WTF is that looks from people, and in conversation, people seem intrigued but know little of the Monster.  It's very different and people know SV's and don't make a fuss over them.  I think it's because not that many are seen out and about and they're nowhere near as hyped as the superbikes.  Everyone immediately mentions the 916, 996, 998, 1098 etc, but know nothing or have only head of the Monster.  It's almost like bigfoot sightings in some of the small towns I've stopped in.

I found it to be a curiously regular thing.  Most non-moto people can't tell the difference between a 1098 and a GSXR and would describe them as looking pretty much the same.  They only notice big things.  But they know that a monster somehow looks different than other bikes they've seen.  People are drawn to SBKs if (a) they know bikes or (b) recognize the name 'Ducati.'  People are drawn to monsters because of the look, even before they know it's a Duc.  For example, the trellis frame is really distinctive on a monster, but not as much an sbk.  And the lines of the bike (which made it such a classic) are much more immediately noticeable--especially to the non-moto folks--when there are no fairings.  That's just my experience and my opinion.  Of course, YMMV.

I even get this with my 695 Dark. But I wonder if this will still be true for the new style Monster.

This is a lot of the attention Monsters get.  They're just so different.  The 1st person that saw my 900SS said "Ooh, Ducati, is that a 998?"  That hints at full-faired bikes being just that.  Common.  So, they've got nothing to compare the Monster too, even the SV is very different and most people know it's not an SV either ~

We almost always get a lot of attention on the Monster's. They stand out so much more when you ride with people on standard sport bikes. Not that I don't like them (the sport bikes), we have a Triumph 675 that's a lot of fun, but generally and to the untrained eye, it looks like any other sport bike at a glance. The Monster's really look like nothing else at a glance or up close!  [thumbsup]

yeah most people think all sportbikes are the same.  They couldnt tell you the difference between a 70k desmosedici or a ninja 250r.

the Monster is a complete different story.  Something about it just looks different from any other bike.  Sure SVs look *similar* but still all there.

i get a lot of stares when actually around people... from some people, it seems like a "sweet bike, dude" stare.
from others, its a "look at this douche bag on his doo-cawt-ee" stare...
from most ladies, its usauall "oooh look it's a red motorcycle!" stare...
decent monster conversations around here outside of the community seem few and far between...

I was riding my black on red 695 in the summer, and a Lamborghini pulls up beside me. i start checking out his car, and i see him eying my bike. He gave me a big thumbs up and pulled away. I guess he felt the 'italian' connection, but my bike costs what his tiers cost.

Absolutely. People always take note of the Monster; no other bike, naked or not, looks like it.
As far as the people who get the snide attitude over Ducatis, a friend and I were backing in our bikes (696, S2R) outside a bar. A "Harley dude" walking by turns, sneers, and says, "Euro trash."  [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

It's all perspective.

In the SF bay area, there are so many that I've never gotten a comment. It's like a gixxer or a harley anywhere else-so many it's old hat.

The only time I ever felt noticed was when people realized how filthy my bike was compared to all the other monsters in the row.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

My bike gets a fair bit of attention but I think most of it is because I'm a girl. 8)
