How long does it take to install termis on a 696?

I just got a quote from my local dealer for the installation. I have the termis, ecu, air filter. They quote me $80/hr labor for 3 to 4 hours, that's $240 to $320 for labor

Is this in line with you guys who had your termis installed?

If this is the case I'm thinking of foregoing the 2yr warranty and do it myself.
I know there are a bunch of screws on the 696 panels but I wouldn't figure it'll be more than two hours with the pro.

It took me and my buddy around 3 hrs to install the cans and ECU because we're lame. The hardest part was the ECU since, as you've mentioned, has a lot of screws to remove just to access it. Just keep a good track of which screws went where (use baggies and write down where they were removed) or take pix. We kinda forgot where one or two went and that added time.

Otherwise, it is easy and doable and will save you the labor cost from the shop. Good luck!

The tank panels take about 10 min to remove (if you've done it before). the tank another 5. the battery maybe 5. then removing the old ecu, exhausts and air filter, 30 min i bet. putting the new parts on another 30 min. putting it back together 30 min. but i think the thing not to forget (according to those who've done it) is the TPS reset.

this is all based on things i've done. taking it half apart putting it back together.

also, there should be a standard time from the dealer. they shouldn't be saying three to four hours. they should give you a fixed price for something like that.

4 hours seems a little long. It took me about 2.5 hours to do it myself. It's my understanding that you don't need to reset the TPS.

I've written a couple of things about this, but the ECU doesn't need to have the TPS reset and there is no fueling adjustment available as it is a closed loop system so the O2 sensor adjusts.

I installed the Termis and ECU on my S2R1K and it took about 1.5 hours. Of course, on my bike, the tank just lifts right up.  I had to take it to the dealer to get the TPS reset afterwards.

I just fitted mine, it took around 2 hours, which included routeing the vent hose from removing the charcoal canister and searching for a bolt that I dropped.

It is actually really simple. I removed the old pipes before doing the ECU and air filter then fitted the Termi's. I followed Raux's instructions for removing the tank.  Thanks Raux they are very useful.

Four hours sounds like the "book rate" for this job, regardless of how long  it actually takes.   I went down this labor rate road a while back when I had my fork serviced prior to installation.  In the end, you are paying for the tech's expertise and know-how.  A dollar value has to be assigned for that.  I installed my full termi system myself and just had the dealer do the TPS reset.  This is a good "do it yourself project", BTW.

My initial thought was to have the shop do the job and keep the 2yr warranty.
My main concern is the ECU it self but after doing the math the labor charge comes out to around 20% to 25% of the whole system (I got it for $1299 w/free 5 day shipping and no tax).... A bit steep just to keep the 2yr warranty.

I am mechanically incline enough and prefer to do the transplant my self plus a few minor paint job

 I'd say it took me about 2 hrs for a complete install the first time I did it. After a 5 minutes of riding the sputtering beast I headed home and took it off. You see, I bought the bike out of town and when I got to the dealer I saw the kit and bought it on impulse. The salesman was only too happy to oblidge me while the tech gave me grave warnings if I dared do it myself. He described hooking it up to an analyzer and adjusting the tps and told me if I did it myself bad things could happen and infact I would have a 50/50 chance of it working ok after. Being the skeptic i am I took the kit home with me in the box. Back it the install now. I figured it was the tps thing causing the bike to run like crap and kicked myself for not listening to the mechanic. A few weeks go by and I catch wind of the reversed coil wire issue and check my bike and low and behold if my bike isn't one of the units affected. I do the repair myself and decide to reinstall the Termi kit and give it a go. This time it took maybe 1.5 hrs to do or so including switching the wires. After I cleaned up I fired the bike up and jumped on it. I was blown away at the difference. It purred like a kitten, flat spot almost gone and ran way better than with the stock setup and reversed coil wires. So I am left with this, the bike doesn't need the tps adjusted and the dealer makes it's bread and butter off it's service. I don't blame them but I don't like the seed the tech was trying to plant of doom and gloom if I did it myself. Don't get me going on the lost month of July waiting for a 5 dollar shifter return spring from pasta land...... . I love my bike but in my opinion Ducatis service is absolutely horrid. Will I buy another one...damn right I will, but I resign myself due to several reasons that I might have to get my hands dirty or fight with a dealer about getting the Italian wizards off their a$$es to actually respond to a distress call.

Glad you've found the problem Gearhead. From what I've read on here the Termi kit will make the coil issue more apparent. I'm now in the process of wasting some gas so I can start the transplant

I was quoted 1.5-2 hrs. @ $90 an hour. My receipt says the final job was 1.5 hrs. or $135 labor.
 My bike was the second 696 exhaust install the shop had done, but I trust my shop and they are professional so I knew they were not out to burn me. At that time there was no tutoral on this web site and I didn't want to be the first guinea pig taking my bike apart. Now after tearing apart the tank to install the battery tender pig tail, installing exhaust wouldn't be so difficult.
 *remember if you haven't done so yet, install a battery tender pig tail or accessories harness pigtail when you have the tank off.*

mine was installed by the dealer, free of charge, when they hooked up the battery as part of the dealer prep when I bought my 696.  If you buy a Deltran tender, the kit comes with the pigtail for the battery.

As for the labor on the Termi kit, I was quoted 1.5hrs, total cost about $120 for install. 
As for the TPS reset, you can reset the TPS on the 696 or 1100 just by power cycling the ignition system 3 times in a row, without actually starting the bike.  The new Siemens ECU does the TPS automatically after the 3rd power on, power off with no start.  You do not need the Duc analyzer to do it. 

Only reason not to do it yourself is either you are not mech inclined or you want the warrantee that comes with the dealer install.
