Hello All.

I'm looking for some advice on luggage form my S4R.

Does anyone here have the ventura system; what are your comments, which bag did you choose, did it tall fit well (the picture on the ventura site makes the bag look very tight to the rider when fitted above the pillion seat)? Or what about the givi pannier system?

Any advice is really welcome as I'm planning a trip to Italy from the UK and want a luggage system I can trust.

Cheers

There are so many to choose from. In the picture you can see mine. They are the cheap tank bag from TourMaster and the not so cheap Ducati multifit rear bag. I paid about €200 for the Ducati bag and the TourMaster was $70. They hold more than I take for a week, but that all depends of course.
Both are very secure, waterproof with cover and are mounted/dismounted in about 5 minutes. If you want higher class and easy on/off I suggest you take a look at SW-Motech.... nice! Good selection here --- http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productlist/658/

Cheers for the info Stopintime. The links are helpful, some good ideas there I'd not thought of.

Anyone else with luggage experience who could help me decide?

Cheers

I had the Ventura system on my old 01 and I put a Ventura system on my GF's 05 M620 and I have to say, it is the bomb! It is  stable at any speed and doesn't even feel like it is there unlike how the side pannier systems catch the wind a bit and can cause a little bit of unsteadyness in the front end as they catch more wind. If you are short and have the bag REALLY loaded down, sometimes it might be a pain to lift off the rack when you are beat tired, but that is the only drawback as I have seen. I used my with two of the AeroSpada45 bags zipped to one another and had ALOT of crap and no problem whatsoever!

as for tankbags...all depends on if your tank is metal or plastic...if it is metal, I'd go for the Tourmaster TriBag, but if it is plastic, I'd go for the Bagster system...that is me personally...you can do what you like based on preference...if you want people to seee "DUCATI" on the tank, you can also look into the Marsee systems that bolt into the fuel fillercap ring and sit just above the tank altogether

+1 on the Ventura system.  I have the big bag for trips and the shorter rack with the small bag for every day.  I think it's great.  With the big bag above the pillion it doesn't affect the center of gravity or the handling of the bike.  I have enough room between my but and the bag and if not I just smoosh the bag back, it's mostly clothes and such anyhow.  It's versitile, if you need more space order a second big bag that zips onto the first and sits above the tail section.

It seems like I post a pic of these every month or so... I must be the only one with them.  Here are mine, they are factory Ducati:

However, they are for low-mount exhaust, so may not be of any help to you.   Undecided

those monster hard bags are impossible to find, the only place i have ever found them is from some place in europe now, but they are obviously asking full price of sometihnhg like 900 or so.  they are great but just way expensive,

i  use the mosnter city bags, which again nobody makes anymore, but they are really convenient for low mount pipe monsters with dual swing arms.

Johndoe, which bag are you using? I'm banging on a bit about this because this picture from the Ventura site looks a tight fit (see link below). I like the Ventura idea because it gives you a rack too which I can put my roll-up dry bag onto for my camping gear.

Cheers guys, this gear is too expensive to buy the wrong thing.

Nice panniers Teutonics, the high level exhausts mean no joy on that front. I used to have a Triumph Tiger and that had a high level exhaust which meant the pannier had a massive cut out on the inner face, almost rendering that pannier a waste of time.

I think they are the same cases, but the mounting brackets are specific to the Monster.

For anyone that wants a set, I *think* that my dealer has a couple of sets in stock.  I could be wrong though... this was based on a second-hand conversation about six months ago.  The dealer is NPR in Athens (edit) Watkinsville, GA, ask for Paul (one of the owners) if you give them a call.

I emailed NPR Ducati asking if they still had any of those panniers.
Here's their response:

Hi John!

I have a bunch, what's the bike and color they will go to?

Thanks!

That is the bag and rack that I have.  On my last trip I put my tent and camping gear on top of the rack like you mentioned.  Depending on how much stuff you pack in the bag it will touch your butt/back but it is not uncomfortable for me.  I didn't feel cramped.  It's mostly clothes and soft stuff in the part that will touch your back and I just push backward and I'm fine.  You can always put the bag on the rack backwards so that the bag is over the tail section but this gives you a less balanced center of gravity on the bike.

Here is a pic of my everyday bag and small rack and then the big bag and rack:

This is great to see some pics of it in action.  I have an S2r 1000 and have been trying to figure out the best way to attach my tent and sleeping bag.  It looks like I could bungee them to the backside of the rack while keeping the Ventura bag facing forward.  Now I just need to find an extra $400 kicking around.

I see that Salt Lake Motorsports is listed as a dealer for them but I haven't ever seen them in the showroom.  Does anyone know if they still carry them?  I would call but today is Sunday so they are closed.
