Author Topic: Talon 3300 Motorcycle Alarm just installed!  (Read 1873 times)

I didnt like my previous Internatrix alarm (too sensitive and not adjustable) so I had been looking for something else. 
In December's issue of Motorcyclist, there was a short review of a few alarms, one of which was the Talon t-3300.  The Talon was small, had a lot of features, sensitivity was adjustable on both the perimeter and shock sensor, and it was pretty cheap at only $184.95 including all optional features. 

For Christmas, my husband got everything for me but the battery backup since he figured there wouldn't be any place to stash it on the Monster.  He also got the separate bike-specific wiring harness so there was no cutting or splicing of wires required to install.   Smiley

The main alarm box was the largest part of the system and it HAD to be installed horizontally.  This limited where it could go drastically.  To solve this, we removed the tool kit stashed in the small space in my seat and left this space open.  (I will just carry my tool kit in my Ventura bag.)  When the alarm was velcroed to the bike, the hollow in the seat would now fit over the alarm.

After figuring that part out, we just had to find what each plug on the alarm and wiring harness went to on the bike.  After that, we just had to employ some creative wire hiding abilities.   Tongue   It is very difficult to hide stuff on a Monster.  Talon also gave us a ton of extra wire for each thing, so I just zip-tied them into little bundles in the area under my seat.

This is where everything ended up:

1. Perimeter Sensor - very skinny (~1cm or less)
2. Siren
3. Main alarm unit
4. Relay

We played around with the perimeter sensor at different settings, and it can be set very sensitive.  When set at the highest setting, it would chirp when someone walked by 2-3 feet away.  I have it set somewhat low right now.  You have to be inches from the bike for it to chirp.

Here is a short video we made testing out the perimeter, tilt, and shock sensor. 

We didnt start the ignition when the alarm was armed in the video, but what happens is the alarm goes off immediately and the bike will not start.  This alarm has an ignition cut off.

I had the Scorpio alarm.  On a windy day, a good gust would set it off.  Shocked

My husband has the Scorpio, as well as a few friends.  Its a nice alarm, just more expensive than I would like  Wink
I might also have the wind gust problem, but my shock sensor is adjustable, so maybe that could be fixed.

Very nice.  Something I want to add in the future, just haven't decided which one to get yet.
