Following up on a suggestion from yuu- when BP and others were posting clips of the Cramps, I realized that my knowledge of the Rockabilly/Psychobilly genre is sadly deficient ;D
I've got 6 Rev Horton Heat albums, but don't know any other bands - Suggestions?

Check out a local Baltimore band, The Glenmont Popes. I have an extra CD if you want it.

If you like the Cramps, check out Flat Duo Jets and Dex Romweber (formerly of Flat Duo Jets).  Dex is currently touring with Cat Power.
Derailers - their recorded music is more country, but their live shows are very rockabilly
and many more - Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Royal Crown Revue, The Meteors, The Blasters .....

I went and saw a local DC band called Shortstack on Saturday that wasn't rockabilly, but close. More in the twang rock or cowpunk genre.  Stand-up bass and really tight.  Good stuff.  I'm more of a twang rock/cowpunk sort of guy and the band that carries that torch the best is probably Drive By Truckers IMHO.

Check out a radio show on KEXP (KEXP.org) Seattle at 6pm PST on Fridays called Shake the Shack http://tinyurl.com/b5zb6y.  It is 3 hours of rockabilly music hosted by Dr. Leon Berman, the proctologist of rock and roll.  The show is archived, so if you can stream at work, go listen now......
996 forks, BoomTubes, frame sliders, CRG bar-end mirrors, vizitech integrated tail light, rizoma front turn signals, rizoma grips, cycle cat multistrada clip ons, pantah belt covers - more to come

the first two cow garage record has some rockabilly.

I prefer the original rockabilly stuff to the revivalists. Hank Williams (Sr only), early Johnny Cash, George Jones, Frizell Brothers, Wanda Jackson, Patsy Cline, even early Elvis -- some real gold there. Pretty much if Sun recorded and released it, it's listenable.

For revival acts, you want to catch Lee Rocker when he plays your town. Wayne Hancock might be the best for traditional rockabilly still playing.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

As Angler mentioned, you might look up CowPunk too.

Let's see.. some of my list of current(ish) bands
The Rev
Nectromantix
The HorrorPops
Dash Rip Rock.
Tiger Army

There's a lot more out there, depending on how far back you want to go.

When I had XM, channel 53 (Fungus) had a segment each day called 'He-Haw Hell!' that was rockabilly/psychobilly/cowpunk.  I don't have satellite anymore, and with the merger the show might not be one anymore

Hmm I always though of Cherry Poppin' Daddies and the Royal Crown Revue as Big Band

Hate to break it to you, but that list doesn't go very far back into the past and most of the bands in it don't exist anymore.  Elvis was considered rockabilly and the term was coined for country and swing bands (one might even call them BIG BANDS) in the 50's that mixed the current country/hillbilly/swing music with a boogie beat.  The first recognized rockabilly recording was Bill Haley 1951 recording of Rocket 88.  His band was formerly a large swing band.  Gotta love Wikipedia.....

So where does swing music stop and rockabilly start? The whole genre gets kind of IZ_, just like most genre labels.  Outlaw country, twang rock, cowpunk, some modern swing bands are all very similar in my mind.

If you are in to American roots music check out that KEXP show I mentioned earlier, plus a show on Wednesday nights called the Roadhouse and the show on Thursdays called Swingin' Doors.  American Public Media produces a show in some markets called American Routes that is a weekly two hour show on American roots music.

I saw The Supersuckers and Nashville Pussy with Rev.Horton  not too long ago.
they both kicked serious ass.

(dunno if they are classified rockabilly....)

I did - good reference but it's not the end all, be all list.  For example, it doesn't have the Cramps on it - which is how we kicked off this topic again - nor does it have The Swinging Cats.  I'm guessing that list is all the current acts, and it's for US and Canadian bands.  So what about past acts and non-North American acts?  On my little list was the new defunct Necromantix from Denmark which are a fun act - and it doesn't have Tiger Army, which is an American act... So - good addition  [thumbsup] but it's not the end of the topic.

Ok, Casey. I was just asking if you saw the link, not that every band was included or that was the only list.  [popcorn]

I obviously did, and as noted, found it lacking some big names, and anything outside North America, like I said.  Saw it, read it, and wanted to contribute more.
