Time for a ride. Discussion has been going around and Sunday looks great. I know several people have shown interest so a thread is probably due. As far as I know the valley will be warm and up north isn't that bad either. Some suggestions:

-87 to Payson

-White spars to Prescott

-Vulture mine road

-Salt river canyon

Other suggestions would be cool too. I will post this on the AZDUC site as well. Feel free to suggest meet up times/places and destination of choice.

Isn't xLr8er in town from the DC area?  He posted in the "Introduce Yourself" thread.  I think he's in Tucson.  Maybe we should PM him and see if he can meet up / we can ride down?

That route isn't a lot of fun until you get past Wickenburg, however, White Spars is fun and it's even more worth while to go north further up through the back side of Mingus Mountain and into Prescott for lunch. There's a little place at the top to White Spars where you can have lunch too. I would it's pretty much a flat slab until you get up to Wickenburg though.

Here's the approach route:

1-17 to the Carefree Hwy.
Carefree Hwy to the 89 up into Wickenburg.

There are really two ways to go, but running up the 60 means that you'll have red lights. Here's a map of the two routes and where they join.

White Spars is just about 30 minutes or so north of Wickenburg up the 89.

It's a lot of fun, but the cops figured that fact out too!!! So you do have to exercise caution!  Police

Continuing up the 89 though is REALLY worth it to hit this lengthy set of twisties:

As soon as they end, you're in Prescott. You can then either go back the way you came, or strait over to the 17 and slab it back to PHX.

*Interesting note though, that if you haven't been to Arcosanti (City of the Future), it's right across the I-17 on the way back. http://www.arcosanti.org/

 waytogo

I more than likely will be joining you guys this weekend for a run. Unfortunatly, Maureen can't make it since she has to work.

I just checked, it's going to be low 60's in Prescott, so cool, but nice  waytogo

Ryan,

Something doesn't look right on your map....Wickenburg is marked wrong....

The map is correct, Wickenburg is at the very top, the big text is for Wickenburg Rd.  Wink

I can't make it this weekend, so you guys have fun!

Sorry to hear that. I will let you guys know for sure tomorrow if I can make it or not.

**Better note the traffic restrictions that Anthony posted for updates on the 17 if that's the ride that's taken this weekend.

It was quite a fun ride today even though we strictly obeyed all posted speed limits and save for the fact that my camera decided to part with me at a high rate of speed.  None the less despite the tragic loss of some good pictures, Mike got some pics even though they are stationary. And one more thing to remember boys and girls, you can contract gonorrhea in your eyes from bug guts.
