CHEEESE!! seriously though, not being about to talk politics makes this topic not discussable since it has just as much to do with the government and its policies as with economics.

it's economical....not political.

it's worldwide...not elephants and donkeys

it's about peoples lack of banking knowledge and how money is made.

I for one, assumed that banks played with deposited money, and had no idea that banks created money solely on debt.

Most of the "money" in the world doesn't actually exist. 8)

It is economical, but who was the one that abolished the gold standard and why was it done? Why have other countries done so to. How many presidents have tried to abolish banks?
It is indeed world wide, maybe i'm mis-communicating, but i see the banks as some sort of political power since they have economic power. And now i think they have even more power since they can make money out of nothing.

I agree. It is ridiculous how they NEVER teach us this kind of stuff in economics class. In fact, everything I learned in economics was not even close to this video. And further research has made me realize that the internet is right.  [bang]

Interesting. I got a little lost in the middle after they finished talking about money as debt and went on to the money created through interest but it was pretty interesting. Honestly, that 47 minute timer when I first started the video was kinda daunting. Wasn't sure I'd be able to sit through something that long.  [roll]
ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!
The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

The problem with monetary theory is that it's usually taught by some guy who sounds just like the one narrating this video, expect without the cartoons, rambling for 50 min. Hence... today's economic woes.
(I actually find this stuff fascinating, having majored in it)

I've always said that we really need to add at least a personal finance class to our basic hs program, but the recent success of a movie like Confessions of a Shopaholic makes me lose all hope for this country's financial future  :'(
