Missing my baby,and Moving it!

I've been away from my S4RS for about 3 months now, I know the weather in Boston is not ride able,  i finally got a Job, 
I'm having this debate with my family, about flying down to Houston and packing S4RS and furniture into a moving truck and taking a drive up.

A question to the to you bike lovers, how would you pack the bike?  a dealer in Houston wanted $150 for a crate, I saw someone on this board simply strapped it to he side.   Really, the bike and nice Sony 46 LCD is all I want, the furniture is just because I'm down there, bonus deal.

anybody in Houston has motorcycle crate to spare?

I start work next Monday, one concern was that it would be exhausting on my mind and body.
Driving moving truck is dangerous, cause we are not used to driving such large vehicle.

How many people move their own bike?  how was the experience?

Rent a small trailer to tow behind the moving truck. I use my pickup to move bikes all the time, maybe borrow or rent one of those and get a trailer for the furniture.

Well, a moving truck isn't really that hard to drive.
It is just a big van with shitty visability.

Or you could fly down and rent a pick up truck. That should be enough for the bike and tv.

I'd go the truck route.

It's a PITA, but when I move somewhere I like to experience the distance between the new place and the old.

Years ago when I moved to WA from VT I flew out, so it was "One day you live in Burlington... (poof) the next day you live in Seattle."

I hated the experience and found it really jarring.

So I made a point of driving down to CA (With my bike in a pick up) when I moved the next time. And experiencing the trip really made it feel like a move.
