The Ducati Performance 696 smoked windscreen I ordered from Commonwealth came in today! Here are some uninstalled pics. I'll take installed pictures tomorrow. It's too dark outside now for good photos. After I post this I am going for a ride.  [moto] I'll update later this evening on initial riding impressions. My main goal was to reduce the amount of wind on my chest at cruising speeds. We shall see.

The kit came with the screen, 2 screws, 2 spacers, and a Ducati Performance decal.
Just a note: You have to retain the stock instrument panel cover in order to install the screen.

Initial riding impression:

Let me back track... When I purchased my 696 last October I ended up taking off the factory installed "screen". Was it functional? I couldn't remember. It wasn't on long enough. I rode around without the screen and noticed that the wind on my chest was quite annoying and made riding unpleasant at times. I waited and waited on the forum for someone to purchase the DP windscreen.
Sure enough the waiting paid off. DMF member R2 purchased one himself and said that it did improve aerodynamics over stock in late December 08.
I placed an order two months later and here we are today.

So how did it feel? It felt good. IMO it cut the wind about 50-60%. I could still feel wind on my chest tonight but it wasn't as forceful as before. It wasn't an OMG I HAVE NO WIND ON MY CHEST FEELING but it was enough to satisfy my taste. I got the bike up to around 70 mph and didn't have any problems. Again, wind was still there but it wasn't pushing on my chest as hard as before.
I do have to mention that it was a bit breezy tonight to begin with...not bad.

Better pictures tomorrow.

Did it redirect the wind like you hoped it would?

Somebody needs to come up with a more flowing windscreen for the 696/1100. The piece just looks so out of place and just put on as an afterthought.

For the most part yes. It got most of the wind off my chest. Today was pretty windy. It was steady ~12 mph with gusts up to ~20 mph. I'll reevaluate when the winds die down a bit. I was getting crosswind as well.

It's the best we 696 owners have as far as a low profile screen. There are others from Fabbri but if you think the Ducati Performance screen looks out of place it is even more so with the others. They are much larger and IMO look really out of place. Are they functional? I'm sure they are but they are not my cup of tea.
There are also the ones from Barracuda and Magical Racing. Both have to be imported to the states. That means $$$$$$$$$$. I really like the one from Barracuda but no one carries them here.

Shocked  Thanks Raux! I didn't know there was a dealer state side. I'll give them a call Friday to see if it's actually in-stock. I like to test out different things when given the opportunity.  chug

Anyone find out if the barracudas were in stock.  Also, anyone know if the windscreen can be removed so the base can be painted to match?

Of all the windscreens/headlight fairings I've seen for the 696, I like this one the best.  But it still looks a little funny, as if it's an afterthought.  Does anyone, or Ducati for that matter, make a bigger faring that incorporates the headlight a little bit better?  I am sure I will upgrade to a 696 eventually and the fairing situation might just be the deal breaker...  Sad

i think the top plastic piece of the healight is the perfect start to incorporate the headlight into a fairing. molding a piece that mounts to the headlight there and then sweeps up over and is attached to the gauges would be the best solution. ithere could be both small and almost ST large since the dual mounting points would give them great stability.

i got the copyright on this one  Wink
