No Mendo Dave, its been light o'clock all day.

You're late  [cheeky]

All of you  [laugh].
No sympathy from me.  It would be quicker and less expansive to have a prize pigeon courier the DVD from Hollywood to my door then attempt such ambitious download activity via our satellite.

I blame Mr Incredible.

My kids already used up all of this month's meager satellite bandwidth... so I'm currently DMFing by wireless... and 2 metres of USB extension cable so that I can get the mobile dongle do-dad up high enough in the window to find reception  [laugh].

I get 72 Mbps, at least that's what it shows in network connections. Its fast enough, I'm just complaining about nothing I guess.
My Dad only has Satellite at his house. It's better than dialup, but leaves a lot to be desired.

ungeheuer

Yup, better than dial-up sums it up pretty well.

My work mobile wireless thing is MUCH faster, even at home in the boondocks.... but it drops out regularly due to the poor phone network coverage.

Get Ready For 'Super Wi-Fi' To Be A Big Thing In 2013
Julie Bort   | Sep. 2, 2012, 11:08 AM | 75,870 | 19

By this time next year, thousands of people will be using a new longer-range kind of Wi-Fi commonly called "super Wi-Fi."

Super Wi-Fi isn't really Wi-Fi, a form of wireless networking which uses unlicensed spectrum. Instead, it's a new kind of wireless network running on unused or underused spectrum known as "white spaces." It's championed by the likes of Google and Microsoft.

After a long, protracted battle  with broadcasters, who first opposed the new tech, it got the official okay from the FCC last December. Since then there's only been a few pilot networks where people can use it.

But progress is being made. A key company in the Super Wi-Fi industry is Spectrum Bridge. It just announced a new program to help equipment makers get white-spaces radios approved to be sold. That means that Super Wi-Fi is on track to be more widely available in 2013.

This follows news from June, when the Advanced Internet Regions University, (AIR.U) said that it will deploy Super Wi-Fi on university campuses across the country starting next year, too.

Super Wi-Fi is exciting because it is stronger and more powerful than existing Wi-Fi. It will be especially important for rural areas and other dead spots where broadband wireless isn't available. If it can get a TV signal, the area can have high-speed Internet access.

This is expected to become a $1 billion market, similar to the Wi-Fi industry.

Super WiFi eh?

Sounds like the technology I need  [thumbsup].

Unfortunately my airwaves are regulated by bureaucratic tortoises.  National high speed broadband ought not be a political issue..... but alas it is*.  So I wont hold my breath waiting for my WiFi to get Super.  Or even adequate  [laugh].

*Guess I have to report to the ban myself thread now, eh.

MendoDave

Well these are real issues. What you have is the 21st century equivalent of the Party Line. My Mother  was telling me about when they first got phone service and they shared that service with three or four other houses. you never knew who might be listening in on your conversation.

Anyway Satellite leaves a lot to be desired. I hope they come up with some better stuff soon.

Morning Tini.
