This should make it official; a boxer would dominate an MMA style fighter.

Funny. James Toney thought so, too. And then Randy Couture put him in a triangle choke 3 minutes and change into their first round.

Besides, capoeira is taken about as seriously by MMA fighters as tae kwon do is. Sure, there are a few good bits you might want to take away from it, but you'll be much better off if you know more than just the one style.

You'll also note that the punch your "boxer" throws is a Superman-style punch. His feet are off the ground and he's not protecting himself at all with his other hand. Throw that at an actual boxer and get ready to count lights on the ceiling.

Oh, and we already have an MMA thread: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=3063.0

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

So who is James Tony? Oh yeah, he was a middle of the road heavyweight as I recall, but put a real boxer in the ring like Mayweather Junior, Leonard, Hagler, Duran, or Hearns and I wouldn't bet against them.

Shorty Junior took 2 for 6 off 4.5 overs  [clap].

I still would. They don't look for things like "kicks" or "takedowns." They're one dimensional fighters. They're great at what they do, but put them in a cage/ring/octagon with someone who's used to having other tools to work with and they're up against loooooong odds.

There is some phenomenal boxing that takes place during MMA fights. Guys train with professional boxing coaches to learn how to punch, and also to learn how not to get knocked the eff out. The stand-up battles are often more fun to watch than the ground fighting.

See if you can find some Johnny Hendricks highlights. Or watch Nate Diaz vs Donald Cerrone. The Diaz brothers are some of the most well-rounded MMA fighters out there right now, with Nate having 11 of his 16 wins by submission. But you watch him pick apart Donald Cerrone for 3 rounds and you won't doubt that he knows how to box.

Then, once you're convinced that boxing is all you need to know, watch a Roy "Big Country" Nelson fight. Or a George St. Pierre fight. Or a Jon Jones fight. Or an Anderson Silva fight.

Don't we have a UFC/MMA thread?

Late. Very late.

As in, I'm about to go be unconscious for several consecutive hours.

Hopefully.

And on that note...

Ugh...seems a hiatal hernia I believe I created the other month is getting worse.....I slipped while leaning over the picket fence a month or so back in Asheville

jammed a picket into my gut just under the ribcage/sternum deep glowing pain that went away after a hour or so

didn't impale me...... just pressed hard and deep and I believe it pushed a section of stomach through the diaphragm into the chest cavity (definition of a hiatal hernia)

then I celebrated by co-shoveling 15 yards of soil into a wheel barrow

well lately I can't get food easily into my stomach....can swallow it but then it sits at the bottom of my gullet and eventually makes its way thru the breech...can't gut-belch anymore very uncomfortable sensation

probably made it worse moving heavy tree trunk and branch sections the past few days...

this seriously sucks as I now need to get to a doctor tomorrow to get a referral to a throat specialist and get an endoscopy done or a barium x-ray...see how make the beast with two backsed-up everything is

all self-web diagnosis tells me it is a para-hiatal hernia so probably need a laproscopic surgical procedure...I know it isn't a sliding HH as I feel the pinch of the breeched diaphram

...well....as long as they don't tell me I have a football-sized belly tumor creating the problem,,,, I guess will be happy and consider myself lucky   :o

so if I disappear for a while it will be for the above reasons...I guess I am taking Thanksgiving dinner off the table and hope if it is surgical that I am on the move by Christmas

cheers

Indeed the limited food part I can deal with until I hit 190 lbs <laughing>  15 lbs to go

but no belching sucks (though I could probably win any farting contest on the planet)
