Just a little...

Yup...1x4 furring screwed into the studs.

So the screws pierce the ice and water shield?

Do you have any support at the bottom of the wall to prevent the weight of the siding from "pulling" the furring strips/screws down?

There is self sealing sheathing tape covering each stud, so yes.

No...no way to accomplish that. If you look closely the overhangs are attached to the furring on the roof and act like a box beam/header.  The screws are 1/4" dia.

The siding on the east wall has been in place for a year now and hasn't moved a bit. The lightweight composite siding reduces the weight considerably from both solid wood or fiber cement and is the reason I chose it.

Stop thinking like an architect...it will be fine.  :-* ;D

You could screw a 1"x4" horizontal support plate along and attached to the bottom end of the "furring" strips  ;)

What is going to prevent the screws attaching the horizontal support from sagging?

This system has been in place for years used in reno's in Alaska.

The vertical furring strips will support it  ;)

Relax.

I make joke  ;D.

FWIW...

I took B's advice re: the tape on the studs.

They don't use it on the REMOTE system typically.

Penetrations through the envelope are impossible to avoid.

You just have to do the best you can to avoid leakage.

I really believe the insulation thickness is the determining factor to eliminate leakage.

If you don't have condensation it can't leak.

There is a ton of data here... http://www.cchrc.org/remote-walls

I used it to make my decisions regarding insulation thickness. They use more in AK due to winter temps.

It will have to get -40F for the backside of the inso to get below the dew point in NH.

If it gets that cold here were all make the beast with two backsed. ;)

You probably know this, but eps is a better insulator at low temps than xps... the inverse is true above 70 F.

every fraction of R value counts.

Just back from the dermatologist, got a few keratoses zapped with liquid nitrogen, didn't hurt a bit, until 10 minutes later. Now it feels like someone has stubbed their cigarette out on my face in about 5 different spots, owww, farrrk! I think I might need a medicinal ale or two.
