I could move to Arizona where they dont have DST. its much closer. The thought of flying all the way to OZ with 400 other sardines for what seems like 6 days makes me cringe.

They do have DST in Adelaide, but they're 30 minutes different to the rest of humanity  .

Go the whole hour or dont bother at all I say....  wackers they are.

Only 'bout 14 hours flying time your west coast to our east coast.  When else do you get a day to sit on your arse, free booze on tap, with no bastard pestering you for something?    

I never mind the actual flight part, its the ground-based bullshit before and after that gets me as irritated as DP on clock-swapping morning.

What changed my perspective was a trip to Boston i made about 20 years ago. I did this "freedom walk" thing. Its a self guided tour through the streets of Boston where you follow some yellow bricks all around town to different historical places. I was confronted then with the American history I learned in grade school. It all made more sense to me then being there in person seeing where some of this stuff happened. What also dawned on me just then was that this was not my history.

The history of the west has little to do with the British and much more to do with Mexico, China, & Japan. When I was younger i used to get confused by the them "Far east" as it sits far to the west. I guess its all about perspective.

Terminology has changed over the years.

But I know what you mean Mendo Dave.  These days we more correctly refer to "the far east" as South East Asia, but I too remember thinking.... "since its less far than the Middle East, why is it so far??" 

Its born of colonial beginnings (for you as well as us).
