It could be worse, you could be studying the minutiae of the fascinating world of insurance until 04:30.

Now there's 'yawn'.

No worries about that happening. ;D

On another note...

why does GPS distort the 'moving' times when steep grades are involved?

"Once you accept that a child on the autistic spectrum experiences the world in
a completely different way than you, you will be open to understand how that
 perspective
is even more amazing than yours."

"Don't piss off old people The older we get, the less 'Life in Prison' is a deterrent."

Because you move more slowly or more fastly, depending on the upness or downheit of the inclination of the grade.

Of that, I have no doubt.

I understand we move slower on steep grades...of that there is no doubt.

What criteria for 'moving' does GPS use?

On yesterday's hike it had us stationary for almost 3 hours. I can assure you that was not the case.

You hiking under forest canopy?

My Spot Tracker 'loses' me when I'm out riding the DR under substantial tree coverage... finds me again when I re-emerge... and then 'fills in the gaps'...

based on your movement it has calculated your age and assumes you to be dead so therefore immobile

Yeah...the canopy is kinda dense.

I figured since it was registering the whole time it could see us.

Maybe that isn't the case.

I'll check it in open ground to see if it's better.

I was afraid of that.

... GPS's satellites can't see you.  So the calculation is that you were at your last reported location (for 3 hours).

Until you magically appear once again.

How does it map the route in real time if it can't see us? It's not like we're on highways.

Not sure.... but I think it maybe it downloads the map of your intended route prior to commencement of the trip....  but calculates your 'real time' progress from the actual reported position of your GPS.... and then makes point-to-point assumptions based on the only actual data received.
