Has anyone heard of an areal flood before?

Multiple warnings about them here since late afternoon.  I've never heard that term before.

And yes, I've googled it, so I do know what it means.  I'm looking at you, DP.  :P

New, fancier term for Flood Warning.

The terms that have been around forever don't seem to be good enough anymore.

Basically an Areal Flood Watch means there is potential for flooding over a large area. (from CBS New York).

They, NOAA, didn't say what kind.
