Evening.

Who thinks it's a good idea to force rolling blackouts during the worst winter storm in 30+ years?   [bang] [bang] [bang]

Thankfully, I've been spared so far (fingers & toes crossed).

Be warm, and with power to you all.

My foot of snow is melting.

Lucy's bad heart is getting worse. We just came from the vets office. I have to decide a course of action or minimal action.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Thanks Dave. The vet is talking a year left and maybe 6 months extra with a lot of tests and medications.

I knew it was coming.

I got an email from my electrical provider explaining how the blackouts work...this was at the bottom of the message: "- Please stay warm and safe during this unprecedented time."

Sorry to hear that news, LMT.

But Lucy couldn't be in better hands.

Morning.

Turns out that a number of power companies do not "winterize" their plants here in Texas (nor are they required to).  The extreme cold has forced them to shut down for various reasons, creating an energy shortage - the demand for natural gas (to heat homes) also has risen, compounding the issue.  Same thing happened in 2011 and 1989 in similar storms.  God bless Texas.  [roll]

Luckily, I have not been impacted.  On a news clip I saw last night, many people are experiencing lengthy outages (due to damaged wiring and such) or shorter rolling blackouts.  I live near a large hospital and believe I'm on the same section of the grid as them.

Looks like a big chunk of the country is pretty chilly today.

I'm guessing Stella is probably shoveling/snowblowing as the mitten seems to have gotten a pretty big dump of snow overnight.

Stay safe & warm, everyone!

Freezing rain, and sleet here.

Remote learning day. Kids today are getting a raw deal. Give them a snow day every once in a while.

Our district kept snow days in place despite having remote learning available. They figured the year sucked enough.

You would be correct.  But this is an every day occurrence (exception of this past Friday).  The canine is no longer visible when he's out on his racetrack, the snow and banks of the "track" are that high now.    :P

And in other news:  I love Lucy.  The sweetest, softest pup I've met who loves and protects her mom.  Hoping for the longest amount of time the two of you have together Mary!
